Fall Update! đź”»

* Only 5-6 sessions left this Fall! ( My only weekend dates available are Oct 3rd and November 22nd). There are 13 days left to choose from, but once I fill 5 or 6 of those I'll be at capacity. This keeps days open for reschedules (for weather and illness) and ensures my turnaround stays within 4 weeks.

* There are only 3 mini session slots available (2 at the Greenhouse on November 21st and 1 in the Studio on October 25th).

* My September Newsletter goes out this week (at least that's the plan). This month's will include an update about booking, links to minis, one last model call opportunity for the year, and info about this year's Small Business Saturday deal. You can join via my Links in Bio.

* If you have inquired with me, please please check your email. I respond very quickly, and always within 24 hours. If you don't hear from me, check your spam and promotional folders. When you submit an inquiry, I send you a quick booking form with additional info about the booking process. You gotta fill that out to begin the booking process. And I do not hold dates. Your date is only reserved if you sign a contract & pay your retainer.

If we missed out on working together this fall, be sure to join my newsletter! You get first dibs on my calendar, model call opportunities (I'll have more next Spring), and Mini Sessions. looking forward to documenting your family this year (or next!)

*Also, this location pictured ^ is now listed in my Hill Country Locations guide that I send to my booked clients*

Today is National Ice Cream Day! So it’s only fitting that I share a recent ice cream photo session I did with this adorable family a couple of weeks ago. 🍦

This was actually a model call session. I do these types of sessions (where the session is either free or discounted in exchange for letting me share photos) now and then when I want to experiment with an idea or location.

For this session, I’ve photographed families at this location tons of times, but never at 11 am in the middle of summer. And I’ve done popsicles in photos at a family’s home, but never ice cream, so there were a few things that were new to me with this idea. And I learned a few things for the next time a family wants to incorporate getting ice cream (either from a shop or when enjoying it at home):

Main takeaway? It is so hot here in Texas during the summer that your ice cream will begin melting as soon as you take it outside. Spring is probably a better time for these sessions. Or, to avoid having napkins on hand to help with the mess (getting a lil messy is part of the fun, but our heat makes it a bit crazy), I found some cone holders on Etsy that I may invest in for future ice cream sessions. Cause sure you can get a bowl, but cones are cute AND edible.

Would you do an ice cream photo session with your kids?

A note to Mom about your photo session experience: what I see through my lens isn't always what you see. What I focus on, how I view your kids, what I see unfolding before me may not always be what you're focusing on. I always find the sweet, fun, joyful, and silliness.

One of the comments I hear the most from families who hire me is that my work doesn't look forced. They love how candid and natural everything looks. And that's cause I don't do a lot of "posing".

There is posing and guidance involved in my sessions, don't worry. (Especially in solo maternity photos) But I give vague directions and observe how families interact together naturally. Instead of telling you exactly what to do to create a beautiful family photo, I observe what you and your kids are already doing and find the beauty in that.

So if they want to be held, I encourage it. If they want to run, they get to race. If they want to look at the sunset, we take a moment to watch the sky. If they wanna play in the water, we make it happen. I'm not controlling what you do, how you play, how you love. I merely control where you do it, what my camera captures, and give you space to be yourselves comfortably.

When your kids turns 4, you celebrate their way.

Now, there are a lot of reasons why I recommend wearing certain colors, textures, or patterns and advise families on avoiding others for their family photos. Some reasons include creating a cohesive look, matching their environment, and knowing which colors will look best with my editing. The main reason for giving wardrobe advice is to create a timeless look that encourages you to look at YOU in the photos, rather than what you chose to wear.

BUT, sometimes the timeless look isn’t what’s important. Sometimes the outfit is part of the story. When your kid is obsessed with a show like Paw Patrol and wants to wear his head-to-toe themed swimming outfit for his 4th birthday photo session, let him wear it. Your photos are first and foremost about documenting your family as they are now.

And if you don’t want your kid to wear their favorite t-shirt or princess dress for photos but they INSIST in the way that toddlers do, let me know ahead of time that you’re bringing an extra outfit so your kiddo can do a wardrobe change. Because at the end of the day, it’s all about keeping your kids happy and remembering their loves, interests, and personality quirks.

How do you plan on spending the summer with your loved ones?

Splashing in the pool, running through your backyard sprinklers, getting ice cream, going to the beach, watching a movie in the backyard, selling lemonade in your neighborhood, or maybe staying cool indoors playing with your kids' favorite toys?

Did you know you can turn any of those things into a family photo session opportunity?

Your favorite memories are worth capturing on camera. And you deserve to be in those photos. So invite your family photographer along for the moments you want to remember forever.

I still have August dates available for capturing these summer memories before the kids go back to school. Inquire today before the summer is over.

Letting your child be exactly who they are --wild, quiet, playful, giggly -- is what makes your family photos so much fun. Not only will the session be so much more enjoyable if you sit back, relax, and just watch what unfolds naturally, but you'll get to relive all the laughs and smiles when looking through your gallery.

So let them roll around in the grass, look for bugs, hold their stuffed animal, and run around. Whatever your kid wants or needs to do in the moment, I can turn it into a beautiful or funny or sweet photo. Because the moment is already ALL of those things.

Fresh 48 sessions take place wherever you choose to give birth. Many Fresh 48s take place in the hospital within 48 hours of your baby being born. They're shorter sessions that lean more documentary so that you don't disturb your baby too much in those first hours of their life. And when you're in the hospital you're working around the nurses schedules so you don't have a lot of time anyways. So we focus on the moment, the details, the emotions in the time that we do have.

But the hospital isn't the only place you can deliver your baby. If you're giving birth at home, your fresh 48 session takes place in your home. The best part about an at-home session is there is zero rush. Just quiet, calm moments of your family taking it all in.

Are you expecting and interested in a Fresh 48? Inquire today and I'll walk you through the process.

Nothing quite compares to golden hour light.

But at this time of year, if you want that dreamy evening light, you have to wait until 8 pm. That can seem daunting when you have little kids.

To make this time of day work during summer, I recommend picking a location your kids will find exciting. If they like exploring and running around, choose a large park with open fields. If they love playing in the water, let's meet at a park with a creek they can get into. Or make the location exciting by bringing something for them to do, like flying kites, blowing bubbles (which I have in my bag), or playing games like tag. Snacks always help when little ones start to feel sleepy, too.

I have found in all my years of doing summer golden hour sessions that kids can handle a later start time and behave better than most parents expect, because it's a new experience.

However, if it's too late in the day for your family, you can always opt for a sunrise session (if you start early enough on a sunny morning, you can still get a warm glow) or wait for Fall when the sun sets a little earlier.

My Fall Calendar goes live in August!

Summertime in the city you love...what could be better?

This Mommy & Me session from last summer was so fun. We got to slow down and take our time walking along the river. We explored, played, and took in the sights in the morning before the heat got too overwhelming.

I love when Moms schedule photos as a play date with their kids. Especially when it's with one kid, to give them some individual attention, which can be so hard when you have more than one kid.

And what better way to soak up time together before your youngest begins school than a photo session, just you and them, where you spend some quality time together exploring your city?
