How do you clean up the office?

Just ended 1st year in Graphic Design School and I tell people all the time, so much work gets tossed at us.

This is just two semesters of 4 classes.

Ugh…. But I have learned so much that has help my photography.

Ok back to work.

Overwhelmed!

How to over come it?

First, I get it, NYC can have that effect, especially on a photographer. The city is always moving and it seems no matter where you turn there is an image to be made. In all the hustle you may be thinking where do I start.

I start with getting a coffee and just sitting back and letting myself get into the rhythm of city. Actually it applies to every city I visit.

Then I just walk around and see the city for what it is, explore as much as possible, all the while just snapping pics, capturing moments. Sounds silly but here is the thing, when I go out just looking for images, sometimes I may find one or two, but unless I know where to look I am pretty much chasing my tail.

What I am trying to say is enjoy the process, don’t just go through the motions. You are going to miss more than just the shots, you are going to miss the experience.

Ok enough on that, I like the shot of the girls hair blowing and the bike at the crosswalk.

Looking down, looking up, looking straight ahead and to the side… something everywhere you turn.

I ended up just traveling with film camera, and finally got to break in the Mono 50.

How did we get here?

Named printed in a book, image in the gallery space, part of the conversation, along sided so many people I have admire for nearly 10 years since joining the Leica community.

I got one question repeatedly throughout the weekend; how did you get in?

If you sit on that question and answer it yourself you might already know the answer.

One system/ecosystem, hours behind the lens, hours of studying, failures and more failures.

If I had to sum it up to one word; investment! You have to invest time; to the craft, to the people you admire, to explore, money for sure, and most importantly invest in yourself.

As a combat medic, my biggest enemy was time, when we have patients we are at a race against time. I come to realize that the same goes here (civilian life) we are fighting against time, and with photography it’s a way to hold on to things, to freeze time if even for a second.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support, and especially , for the vision and the whole team behind this endeavor.

Leica 100 book release party what a night!

Takeaway,

Each event I attend I get to talk to like minded people and share stories and moments. And I always walk away with something.

This weekend my biggest reminder came at a round table held for all the photographers who were represented in the book.

Lots was shared and one of the questions was regarding an image you have taken and all that went along with it.

I shared a the story behind one of my closest images and what it meant to me and how it came to be. Though I won’t get into that to much here (it deserves its only segment) I will share the over arching message/reminder.

That life is a collection of fleeting moments, and as a photographer I am trying my best to capture as many as I can, because you just never know which ones will carry the most weight in the future.

My message to you;

Take images, print images, and someday you’ll find yourself reflecting on them, happy you did.

Peace ✌🏼

Everyone has their talents. Sign language is hers.

Early morning coffee stop and a quick chat put us at a cross roads, she could go into work a little early or let me capture some moments.

I think she managed to pull off both.

First shot is “excited” the third is “friendly” perfectly suited for the moment, and unscripted. I just asked her to sign to me and I wanted to see if I could truly captured the moment.

The last frame is just that typically candid moment, had to throw it in.

So for all my friends out there be prepared for an impromptu moment.

HC B&W

Sunday morning was looking for pockets of light. Just strolling around coffee in one hand camera in the other.

The idea was straight out of camera HC JPEGs, but then I found myself out of habit playing with the files and then I was like 4 images in… ugh.

If you are interested let me know I follow up with another post with just the JPEGs.
