A couple came to a consultation and mentioned that another photographer counted their travel time toward their coverage hours. They asked if that was normal...

It’s not unheard of, but it matters enormously, and most couples don’t know to ask.

If you book eight hours of photography with me, you get eight hours of me photographing your wedding. Not driving to it. Not setting up gear. Not eating dinner. Eight hours with a camera pointed at your day.

I do step away to grab a snack or water (gotta stay fresh and focused!) but I time it around lulls so you’re not missing anything. The point is that your coverage time should be exactly that: yours. Every hour accounted for.

Before you sign with any photographer, ask directly: does my coverage time include travel? The answer will tell you a lot.

There’s one thing I do at the start of every session that changes everything...and it has nothing to do with the camera.

I talk to your kids.

Not in a “okay smile for the camera!” way. In an actually talk to them way.

Find out what they’re obsessed with right now. Ask about the shell they found in the parking lot. Let them explain the rules of whatever game they’ve invented.

Kids can tell within about thirty seconds whether an adult actually likes them or is just tolerating them. I was an elementary school teacher. A nanny before that. Now I’m a boy mom of two myself. Kids fascinate me.

And here’s what happens when kids feel that: they relax. And when your kids relax, you relax. I’ve watched it happen with hundreds of families on this beach.

Bring whatever your kids love. The football. The beach toys. The thing they’d grab on their own if you weren’t watching. The activity is just an excuse to be together without performing. That’s where the real photos live.

For the couples getting married during hurricane season…

Florida weather is beautiful. It’s also unpredictable. And hurricane season overlaps with a significant chunk of wedding season.

Here’s my policy: if a hurricane forces a postponement, I prioritize your rescheduled date as long as it doesn’t conflict with another booked wedding. No penalty. No starting over.

Peace of mind on your wedding day starts long before the wedding. Ask your photographer what their contingency plan actually looks like. Because backup plans are a must-have! 🤍📸

Okay, not always bubbles. But in all honesty, there’s almost nothing that brings out the fun and personality more than your kids having some of their favorite things at their session with them. 10/10 highly recommend!
