The toughest question: where should I do my senior pictures?

Before choosing a location, I always look at three things: the light, the senior’s personality and style, and how much variety we can create in one session.
Light matters more than most people realize. Great light gives senior portraits depth, dimension, beautiful color and flattering skin tones. A pretty location can still be the wrong choice if the light doesn’t work well there.
Then I look at the senior themselves. Their outfits, personality, interests and overall style should help decide where we shoot. The goal isn’t to pick the most popular location. It’s to choose a setting that actually feels like them.
And finally, I want variety. I’m always looking for different backgrounds, textures and lighting so the finished gallery feels full and intentional instead of repetitive.

The end of August feels different when you’re the mom of a senior.
School starts again, the routines come back, and somewhere in the middle of all of it you realize this may be the last August they’re really still yours at home.
The last back-to-school year.
The last year of ordinary mornings, shoes by the door, running late, sports schedules, forgotten water bottles and all the little things that probably don’t feel important yet.

It isn’t just about graduation.
It’s about realizing how many “lasts” are happening while life still feels completely normal.

That’s why senior pictures matter so much to me. For the high school seniors and parents I photograph throughout Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Northeast Florida, the goal isn’t just beautiful senior portraits.

It’s preserving who they were in this season before everything changes.

Hair accessories are always a great way to end the session! In Florida, we are always fighting humidity, so sometimes that natural vibe means less stress for you for your Jacksonville or St Augustine senior photos. To all the parents dropping their kids off at college and saying that final goodbye…

somewhere in your head, isn’t this the age you’re actually dropping off?

I did this last year and it wrecked me in a way nothing prepared me for. You spend eighteen years watching them grow, and your heart never quite updates the file. In the car, driving away, all I could see was a kindergartner in a car seat, not a college kid in a dorm room. That’s the happiest sad. Proud of who they’re becoming and grieving who they used to be, both in the same breath, both at once.

This is why I do what I do. So that senior year gets held onto before it becomes a memory you’re reaching for. So that photo on your wall isn’t just a photo, it’s the thing that lets you feel all of it again, every single time you walk past it.

It’s time for the last first day - senior year. And somehow, the beginning already feels a little like the ending. 🥹

This year is such a big one. For them, it’s full of excitement, plans, lasts, firsts and figuring out what comes next. For us parents, it’s celebrating everything they’ve worked for while secretly wishing we could slow the whole thing down.

Maybe that’s why senior photos mean so much to me. They aren’t just about having pretty pictures. They’re about stopping for a minute in a year that moves way too fast and remembering exactly who they were right here, before everything changes.

So here’s to the Class of 2027. To the last first day, the big moments, the ordinary ones, and a whole year worth celebrating.

Excited for what’s next, not quite ready to let go. 🤍 hold on, this one flies by!

College apartments have changed… and apparently so have the expectations. 😂 Her aesthetic is clean and white, with a touch of boujie and apparently all my money! My college decor had personality and homemade bulletin boards. Hers has a Pinterest board with the perfect vibe. here we come! Send me strength…please tell me I am not alone in this struggle 🫣

Senior photos aren’t an extra, they’re the record of exactly who your senior is right now, before the roles change and the house gets quiet. This is the weight of proud, the happiest sad, all at once. Don’t let this one slip by…

Here’s what I’ve learned after years of doing this: the dread isn’t really about your face or your body, or even about your outfits. It’s about standing still with a camera pointed at you and nothing to do and feeling vulnerable. That’s it. That’s the whole thing. So we fix the actual problem and we give you movement, a role, somewhere for your energy to go and the awkwardness disappears almost immediately. You laugh, you smiled you feel like YOU- trust me!

You don’t have to feel confident walking in. You don’t have to love how you look in photos right now. You just have to show up and let the session do what it’s built to do- freeze this moment, right now!
This is senior year. You get one shot at documenting exactly who you are right now — not who you’ll be in five years, not a filtered version, just you. Don’t let “I hate having my picture taken” be the reason you skip it.
