Mama Alaskan Brown Bears have to work overtime. While top dominant male bears can gorge on 30 to 40 fish a day, nursing mothers split their time between protecting vulnerable cubs, teaching them survival skills, and fishing, often needing to catch significantly more than a solitary sub-adult. A mother bear must sustain her own body, produce multiple quarts of milk daily for her twins, and store heavy fat reserves for winter hibernation. This means needing to catch roughly 10 to 20 or more salmon a day during peak summer and fall runs to support herself, produce milk, and feed her growing young.

One of the best things about photographing at Crescent Lake in Lake Clark, Alaska is the color of the water. It is described as "Gatorade blue" and is caused by glacial flour extremely fine rock dust. As massive glaciers slowly move over bedrock, they grind the stone into microscopic powder. When this sediment washes into the water and reflects sunlight, it creates a vivid turquoise hue.

We just returned back from another incredible trip to Alaska. We had a bumpy start with the weather but with rushing Alaskan Brown Bears, like this one, we were all smiles.

After my Wildside Nature Tours was removed from our schedule, due to the company closing, I was asked by the guests who were previously signed up if I could lead a Grand Teton Photo Tour this fall. Luckily my friends at Creeks and Critters stepped up and we are able to host a Fall Grand Teton tour after all.

I have a 2 extra spots if you have been thinking of Grand Teton this fall but thought it was too late. Here is your chance.

Photography opportunities abound during fall in the Grand Tetons. The golden colors of Autumn offer a brilliant backdrop to wildlife preparing for Winter. Bears are busy fattening up for the long period of cold, while elk and moose are in rut, dressed in their best and putting on a show. Al
