Fire can be controlled by removing one or more elements needed for combustion. Fire protection principles commonly describe four basic methods of extinguishment:

β›½ FUEL REMOVAL / STARVATION β€” Removes, shuts off, or isolates the fuel feeding the fire.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms, including the risk to isolated to scattered severe storms, primarily in southern Vermont and the Champlain Valley, are expected this afternoon and evening. All hazards will be possible, but the main concerns will be gusty to damaging winds. Heavy rain is also possible, especially in southern Vermont, where localized flash flooding concerns exist.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.
Hazardous weather is not expected at this time.

The easiest way to identify a fire class is to ask:

β€œWhat is burning?”

🟩 CLASS A β€” ASH
Ordinary combustible materials such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber, and some plastics.
Remember: A = Ash β€” these materials often leave ash when burned.

πŸŸ₯ CLASS B β€” BOIL
Flammable liquids such as gasoline, oil, paints, and solvents.
Remember: B = Boil β€” a simple memory aid for flammable liquids.

🟦 CLASS C β€” CURRENT
Fires involving energized electrical equipment, including wiring, outlets, appliances, and electrical panels.
Remember: C = Current.

🟨 CLASS D β€” DENT
Fires involving combustible metals, such as magnesium, sodium, and titanium.
Remember: D = Dent β€” think of metal that can be dented.
