The mountains... a place I truly feel at peace. From babbling streams, to 14,000 ft peaks. I don't feel judged here, I feel accepted. I can put in a 12 hour day or sit by a stream soaking in the sights and sounds, and feel accomplished with either activity. Every animal graceful, elegant, and glorious in their own ways. I don't worry about money here... or gossip, fashion, politics, war. I worry about which direction to point my camera, which trail to take, or how long to watch the moose graze. I listen to the wind howl through the trees, creating a tranquil barrier made of air and wood... protecting me from humanity invoked stress. I am truly happy in the mountains.

Saw a lot of elk this time around at Rocky Mountain. I have just dreamed of seeing an elk at dawn, calling echoing down the valley, with clouds of breath rolling through air. Instead, I got the not majestic side of elk. Shedding, antlers growing, and rabid looking. I still think they are majestic animals, and enjoyed every bit of the herds of elk we saw. The first elk looked different though, his antlers either grew really quick, or never fell off. I hope later this year I can experience the rut through my camera. I use to hunt elk for a long time growing up into adult hood, but now, I would rather hunt them with my camera. Enjoy!

Not Colorado weather at the moment, but I couldn't resist sharing this textbook radar image of a supercell, with a hook, in Oklahoma. If you're curious, watch Ryan Hall Y'all, and he is watching storm chasers live.

Happy Earth Day! I'm not one that is great with words, so, I'll leave you with two Theodore Roosevelt qoutes, and then the language I speak- photography of what our local world has to offer.

“We have become great because of the lavish use of our resources. But the time has come to inquire seriously what will happen when our forests are gone, when the coal, the iron, the oil, and the gas are exhausted, when the soils have still further impoverished and washed into the streams, polluting the rivers, denuding the fields and obstructing navigation.” -Theodore Roosevelt

“The farther one gets into the wilderness, the greater is the attraction of its lonely freedom.” -Theodore Roosevelt

The Gooses were out and about at Rocky Mountain. (Yes, I said Gooses.) Seemed like a great place to spend time. They were just doing little dances to shovel food around, then nosediving to find their underwater meals. It was fun to sit and just watch them live. A wonderful escape from society and the scary drought taking over Colorado. But enough of that, browse the pictures, and check out the geese goosen off. Enjoy!

I tried to be.... artsy and different. I like this natural frames added by an abandoned burnt down house in Estes. It's a landmark called the Birch Ruins, so it wasn't a recent incident. A beautiful little walk in Estes that looks over the town, has an amazing view of Longs peak and Rocky Mountain National Park. Enjoy!

Rocky Mountain National Park has a lot a large sized mammals to observe and take pictures of. But the birds there are just as amazing and fun to watch. Eagles, hawks, water fowl, finches, turkey, and so much more. It's peaceful just to sit and watch a bird do bird things. This Mallard sure didn't mind at all, and I appreciated it greatly. Momentary escape from this crazy world provided by nature. Enjoy!

It's a Moose! This is the moose from the picture I posted the other day. It drew a small crowd of people. One gentleman had an extremely expensive camera and lens (my goals) and I am sure got amazing pictures. Then a family showed up, and their daughter probably thought the same about me, as she hoovered awkwardly over my shoulder saying I had taken the "greatest pictures ever!" Her father had a "respect peoples bubbles" conversation with her afterwards. It reminded me why I teach, and how much I love to help foster the goals and interests of students and learners. I wish everyone stormed chased, took pictures, hiked, so-on, and told these stories to foster their own internal and external success. The joy it would bring. Enjoy!

Update: I'm still tired. The irony of taking a needed break, but still being exhausted. Anyway, I am a sucker for mountains in black and white that have clouds whooshing of the peaks. Some of my favorite pictures to take. I think this is McHenry's Peak, it is in Rocky Mountain National Park. Still so many pictures to go through and post, so thanks for sticking around, and enjoy!

Rocky Mountain National Park was a blast. First day at RMNP and this moose decided to have a snack towards the evening in Sprague Lake. It's a pretty common occurrence that is difficult to catch. Mountains, deer, elk, moose, turkey, and I have so many pictures to comb through, but I am exhausted. I'm probably going to sprinkle pictures throughout the week here and there when I have time an energy. Hope you enjoy!
