Who's Watching Whom?
While photographing the Black-bellied Whistling Ducks nesting at Bent Oaks Rookery in Rockport, Texas, this curious individual clearly decided to flip the script. After spotting me from the tree canopy, it flew down and strutted along the fence line for a closer investigation — giving me an unexpected and intimate look right back. Captured 4/11/26.

Chilled Rosé
Sometimes the best subjects just show up and cooperate. I spent yesterday morning at the Bent Oaks Rookery in Rockport, Texas, where a number of Roseate Spoonbills were moseying about the treetops — most preferring the shelter of the canopy. This one, however, decided to chill near the observation area in the early morning light and let me do my thing. That iconic spatula bill, those vivid pinks lit up by the golden hour — hard to ask for more. Captured 4/11/26.
