When our good friends FaceTimed us, we thought it was cute. But it was a little unusual since that's not exactly how we communicate. We're much more of a group text crew, where we randomly roast each other on a regular basis. Out of love, of course.
So there we were, all four of us staring at each other on our screens, when suddenly, out came the words:
**Our wedding has been planned.**
Todd and I were all like, “Yay! omg!” And then came, “Todd, we want YOU to be our officiant.”
And suddenly we were all like, “WOW! OMG!”
What a beautiful ask. ❤️
Todd was the one who introduced Caitlin and Wes to Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, a place that holds so much of our own love story. So many of mine and Todd's favorite memories were made there.
In fact, hanging on our bedroom wall to this day are photographs of the two of us, taken years ago with a medium format film camera, at a little spot called Heaven's Bench, sitting above Darling Hill Road with one of NEK's breathtaking views of the mountains.
And wouldn't you know it? That's exactly where they chose to get married.
On that hill. At that very bench.
The same place that holds pieces of our love story would now become part of theirs.
And let me tell you, it was magic.
Now, I didn't even ask about photographing the wedding. There was a mention of it, maybe a soft ask, but not really.
But I brought my gear. I had to. I wanted to. How could I not?
From running behind schedule while Caitlin was getting ready (as most brides do!), to the beautiful stillness of the ceremony, to having just enough one-on-one time with the two of them afterward to create something fun, beautiful, and so very *them*.
Somewhere in the middle of it all, I felt something I hadn't felt in a while.
**And I think I'm back.**
Back to wedding photography.
Small, intimate weddings. One location. Maybe two. The kind where the moments matter more than the production.
And it was like I never left.
I fell right back into photographer mode. And, when needed, happily slipped into my other familiar roles of event coordinator, seamstress, florist, and whatever else the day called for. Some things never change!
After spending so much of my life photographing weddings, I wasn't sure I'd ever feel that spark again.
But there it was. Like an old friend I hadn't seen in a while.
And what I love most is that it was *these two* who reignited my love for something that had been such a huge part of my life for so long.
I can't think of a more beautiful way to find my way back.
Caitlin and Wes, thank you, and congratulations! Todd and I are both so incredibly honored to have played such a special part in this beautiful chapter of your love story.
We couldn't love you two more!
