I think we’ve overcomplicated family photos.

We worry about behaving. About outfits. About losing 10 pounds first. About getting everyone to smile at the camera.

But the photos that become priceless were almost never the ones we planned.

They were the ones where your daughter whispered something ridiculous in your ear. Where your son tackled you instead of standing still. Where you forgot, for just a second, that anyone was taking pictures.

Those are the moments I chase.

So here’s what I’d tell you before every session if I wasn’t afraid to hurt your feelings.
