IT’S CALLED LAKE ONTARIO
‘It’s Called Lake Ontario’ gathers an international and local collection of visual artists to share a clear, unified statement about the state of the Lake—one man cannot take what is ours, cannot pit us against our neighbors, and will not rebrand us to fit his dystopic vision of the future.
What’s in a name?
Memory, history, value, understanding, culture, identity.
This is our home. This is our lake. Symbols matter. Names matter.
Lake Ontario matters to us.
Artists and Curators Michelle L Miller and Matt Vanderlee have gathered fifty artists from around the world from as far as the United Kingdom, Nicaragua, our neighbors on the other side of the shore in Canada and more, along with our neighbors in the midwest states and a great group of local working artists to express this very simple message.
Admission to Frank’s gallery is always free, but we ask visitors to our opening reception to consider bringing uncooked, packaged rice and/or beans to aid the work of artist Erica Bryant efforts in supporting immigrants targeted by the Trump administration facing unjust deportation in Rochester.
The show opens Friday, October 2nd from 6-9pm, and will be hanging throughout October at FRANK’S CHOP SHOP ROCHESTER 💈
