The winter of 2025/2026 hasn’t exactly been a winner when it comes to the Sierra Nevada snowpack, but today was as good of a day as it will get this spring to go chasing some waterfalls in the local area. Scott Chandler Productions had the chance to capture one of Northern California’s quiet gems from above. 🌲💧
Nestled in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area near Graeagle, Frazier Falls spills gracefully along Frazier Creek, a waterway named after early settler John Frazier, who explored and lived in the region during the mid-1800s. The falls themselves have long been a favorite stop for hikers and nature lovers, offering an accessible yet stunning glimpse into the Sierra Nevada’s rugged beauty.
Standing at approximately 176 feet, Frazier Falls is unique in its personality across the seasons. In the spring and early summer, fueled by snowmelt, the creek surges with energy—transforming the falls into a powerful, roaring cascade. By late summer and into the drier months, the flow softens into a more delicate ribbon of water, revealing intricate rock formations and a quieter, more meditative atmosphere. In winter, the falls can partially freeze, creating a striking contrast of ice and motion against the granite landscape.
This aerial production—filmed using the DJI Mavic 4 Pro—offers a perspective that few get to experience in person. From above, the surrounding forest, granite outcrops, and winding creek come together to tell a broader story: one of seasonal rhythm, geological time, and the enduring beauty of the Sierra. Sometimes, all it takes is a different vantage point to see a familiar place in a whole new way.
