As many of you were gathering with friends yesterday to watch the Super Bowl, my good friend Wendy and I were making our way up the California coast from Santa Cruz to Ano Nuevo State Park. This year I invested in a California State Parks Golden Poppy pass so we had an excuse to stop at every state park along the way. We were lucky enough to spot a few butterflies atop the eucalyptus trees during the migration of Monarchs at Natural Bridges and we ended our day with a lovely after hours guided tour of the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo State Park.
Special thanks to docents Fay and Joe, as well as my dear friend David who arranged the trip.
It was also the first time I have been to the coast since the devastating CZU Complex fire, it was absolutely heart breaking to see that the beautiful costal redwoods were burnt all the way up to the ocean. I know that in time the forest will regrow and once again be beautiful.
Yesterday’s outing reminded me how blessed we are to live in a place with the most amazing natural resources and diverse ecology. Here are a few of my favorite shots from our elephant seal walk, I hope you enjoy!
