This is my favorite hour of the whole day. Before the vows. Before the first look. Before any of it. The room is loud and quiet at the same time. Someone’s crying already. Someone’s laughing too hard. The dress is hanging. The flowers just arrived. And in the middle of all of it there she is. Completely still. Completely in it.

That feeling right before everything changes? It sets the tone for the entire day. When the morning is unhurried when there’s space to just feel what’s happening it carries. Into the ceremony. Into the portraits. Into the dance floor at midnight.

Everyone talks about the couple during the ceremony. But I can’t stop watching the room. The dad in the front row who promised himself he wouldn’t cry and didn’t make it past the first note of the processional. The mom who reached over and grabbed her husband’s hand without saying a word. The best friend in the third row, biting her lip, trying so hard to hold it together because she knows. She’s been there for every chapter that led to this one. The way the whole room leaned in at the same moment. Like everyone felt it at once. That’s the thing about a ceremony. It’s not just two people making a promise. It’s every single person who loves them, feeling the weight of that promise too. I’m never only watching the couple. I’m watching everyone who showed up to witness them. Because those are the photos that make you call your mom when you get your gallery back. Ten years from now, you won’t just remember how you felt.

You’ll remember how everyone in that room felt too. And I’ll make sure of it.
