On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, I was invited down to the river to photograph a surprise proposal. The weather couldn't be more perfect and everything fell into place perfectly.

This photo breaks rules. It's not in focus. I'm not even sure if I took it or if my oldest did. But there is something sweet about it. I added it to my yearly photo book. It was from our 22 day trip out west and our stop in Paris Landing, Tennessee right on Kentucky Lake. I don't know all the photography rules and don't really care. I like photographing moments and emotions. Clear ones and blurry ones.

A few months back, I received a text asking if I would be available to take some wedding photos for Sally and Michael. And without hesitation I said yes. You see, Sally was an integral part of my children's lives in the last 15 years. She was their very first teacher. If you never had the pleasure of meeting Sally or having her as your child's teacher at Calvert Nursery School, man you missed out on a truly wonderful experience. She was an amazing teacher, leader, friend, confidant. She led her classes with love, nurturing, and patience of an absolute saint. She also was crucial in Levi's speech development. She texted me the first day of school (for my now 15, almost 16 year old) moments after I left her screaming saying, "she's fine mom." I still remember the songs she sang with all three of my kids, still hold on to the projects she made with them, and still look back at all the photos she took during class that she so thoughtfully put together for parents at the end of each year. And now it's my turn to repay her.

She is one of the most selfless women I have ever met and she has met her true partner and match with Michael. He loves her wholly, with truth, and with grace. He lifts her up when she needs it and he brings stillness. And occasionally gives up pop tarts. These two deserve all the happiness in the world and I want to wish them a lifetime of joy.
