Meet Maisie and Smokey. 🐾

This custom artwork was created for my clients using cellphone photos that they supplied. And yes, cellphone pictures can absolutely work — especially when I have clear images that show the pets together.

That part matters more than people realize. Seeing Maisie and Smokey in the same frame helped me understand their proper scale, their markings, and how they look side by side. Because when you are creating art from real pets, you do not want one dog accidentally becoming Godzilla while the other looks like a decorative throw pillow.

🌟 This is AI-edited, not AI-generated. 🌟

These are real dogs. The source images were real cellphone photos. The finished piece is custom artwork created from those real references.

And here is the wonderful part: you do not have to live near me. If you are anywhere in the country and have photos of your pets, I can work with your images to create something beautiful for your home. Want a specific setting? Is it not a dog but a gecko? Have they crossed the Rainbow Bridge - and maybe it's time for the gang to be together? Yes, it can be done.

Real dogs. Real photos. Custom art. A little technology. A lot of heart.

This is Mac, a German Shepherd I photographed last year in Nashville, and honestly, he could be the breed standard’s publicity photo.

German Shepherds are known for their intelligence, loyalty, confidence, and watchful nature — and Mac brought all of that to this portrait. The strong posture, the alert ears, the steady eyes, the quiet dignity… it is all there.

There is a reason this breed is so often trusted for service, protection, search work, and family companionship. They are powerful dogs, yes, but the best ones also have heart, patience, and a deep connection to their people.

Mac’s portrait captures that perfectly: noble, focused, loyal, and just a little bit “I am in charge here, but I’ll allow you to continue.”

Meet Sietske and Oepkje, a mother-and-daughter pair of Friesian mares from Medallion Friesians of Texas.

Friesians are one of those breeds that make you stop what you’re doing and just watch. The movement, the mane, the power, the presence — honestly, they know they’re magnificent and I respect that.

I photographed these two beauties, then took the finished portraits a step further and created artistic renditions that keep the soul of the original image while giving it a softer, painterly feel.

Because some horses don’t just deserve a photograph.

They deserve a portrait. 🖤

I started using Photoshop back in 1997 to do digital scrapbooking. That was two years after the death of my Dad, Frank Martin. I made this in his memory.

On this day in 1944, American and British forces went ashore on to the beaches of Normandy, France, in a massive invasion. My Dad was a 19-yeaďżźr-old US Ranger . . . and he was there. Omaha Beach. Scaling the cliffs.

Every year I will post this picture on June 6th.

I miss you, Daddy. We’ll see each other again, one day.

The Spirit of ’76 has gone to the dogs. Literally. 🇺🇸🐾

To kick off June’s Dog of the Month Contest, I took the famous patriotic painting The Spirit of ’76, replaced the key figures with dogs, animated it into a 10-second clip, and added “Yankee Doodle” because subtlety packed up and left sometime around the fife solo.

This month’s theme is:

Puppy Love, American Style

I assigned a dog breed to all 50 states based on geography, stereotypes, weather, food, football, history, and my own deeply questionable judgment.

For example:
New York gets the Jack Russell Terrier because it’s fast, opinionated, and NYC could use the ratting help.

Florida gets the Shih Tzu because it’s being carried by retirees in a Publix tote bag and is absolutely ready to fight an alligator.

North Dakota gets no dog at all because no one goes there and even AAA doesn’t have a TripTik for it.

The contest is simple:
Do you have one of the breeds on the Unofficial State Dogs list? Or does your dog's DNA primarily made up from one of the breeds on the list?

Your dog does not have to live in that state. A Golden Retriever in Tennessee can absolutely enter as California. He surfs now. Don’t question him.

June Dog of the Month entries are open now. Check the list, find your dog’s unofficial state, and enter!
