8/27/26. My favorite Whale Watch ever. I've been on many the past bunch of years but I'd never seen anything like this. It was one week ago today, the afternoon trip with Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises, and my head is still spinning from this one! To start it all off, the boat stopped about 20 minutes earlier than usual, as our amazing Captains spotted a large pod of Atlantic White-sided Dolphins so close to the shore at Race Point in Provincetown. We spent a bit of time with these magnificent creatures (photos included in this series) before continuing on to the search for Humpback Whales in Stellwagen Bank. And when we began to spot Humpbacks? WOW! I posted a video on my page last week that was exactly one minute long in real time and in that video there were eight Humpback whale breaches. And that's pretty much the way the entire excursion went. As the boat sat idle through a good portion of the trip, we were surrounded by Whales and at times it seemed like none wanted to stay in the water. Yes, it was a breachfest for sure! I am not exaggerating when I say that we observed well over 100 breaches and probably more like 150-200. It was something you usually only dream about. Multiple Whales jumping out of the water simultaneously, many Calves in the mix, the dilemma of not knowing in which direction to look or point the camera lol. At times, Captain Mike did an amazing job of lining the Humpbacks up with Provincetown's Pilgrim Tower and as a result of that I was able to get some dream photos of breaching Whales with the monument in the background. Here are some of my favorite photos from this spectacular trip!

Also a reminder that the last extended trip of 2026 is on Sunday 9/13 at 9am. We will be out there for at least six hours so the odds of amazing sightings are even higher than on the typical four hour trip. As usual, I will be doing a photography workshop (centered around photographing our Sea Mammals) on the boat as we are on the way to the whales. Other experts are also part of the extended excursion as well. I hope to see many of you out there.

DOUBLE Humpback Whale breach sequence! 8/27/26, Cape Cod Bay/Stellwagen Bank, Ma. while on the best whale watch ever with Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises last week. These are just a few photos from my favorite excursion out there to this date. You will probably think I’m exaggerating but I am not when I tell you that there were well over 100 breaches in the few hours we were out there. Possibly 150 or more. For the entire trip we were surrounded by whales and at times it seemed like every one of them was breaching. And I do believe they were lol. I had never seen anything like it and people who have been on the boat for MANY more years than me said the same thing. It was pure insanity and I will post a series of photos from this trip tomorrow. But I needed to start with something that I always dreamed about capturing and seeing and never really thought it would happen. Two whales breaching at the same time and close enough that I could catch them in one photo. On this dream trip there was much of this going on but many on different sides of the boat and far away from each other so not being able to catch it with my camera. And then this happened right in front of the boat. I may never get over this trip. 🙂

On Saturday a few students from my Level Two Photography Class and I visited Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich, Ma. to do some shooting. This, as you can see, is a beautiful place with no lack of subjects to photograph. We found a "Hummingbird Tree" towards the end of our walk as there were at least six different Ruby-throated Hummingbirds flying in and feeding from it. These are some of my favorite photos I took during the two hours we spent there. So much fun! Cape Cod, Ma. 8/29/26.

If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that at least once a season I need to go out with Beachcomber Seal Tours in Chatham and spend some time with the Grey Seals in Chatham Harbor. It never disappoints, especially when I go at low tide. Yesterday I had a few friends and students with me as well, which made it even more special. We not only saw numerous Seals hauled out on sand bars and swimming around the boat, but we were also treated to beautiful views of the Lighthouse and beaches and the big beautiful homes in the area. Such a beautiful day. Photos to come. This was a splendid way to end the spectacular month of August that I have had. I’m sad that it’s gone, but looking forward to a great September. 8/31/26 Chatham, Cape Cod, Ma.

Leatherback Turtle 8/26/26 Cape Cod Bay/Stellwagen Bank, Ma.

I’ve said this many times before but you never know what you will see on a whale watch. We have our Whales that we look for and sometimes we see Dolphins, Seals and other marine life but otherwise you just never know. All the times I’ve been out I had never seen a Sea Turtle off the boat. On Wednesday morning’s trip with Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises that changed as a Leatherback Turtle popped up next to the boat while we were whale watching. Quite a surprise! It was so cool to see and they are so prehistoric looking. 

Leatherback turtles are the only turtles who do not have hard shells. They are named for their shell, which is leather-like rather than a hard, like other turtles have. They are the largest sea turtle species and also one of the most migratory, crossing both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

When the conditions are right on a sunset whale watch this is what you see. We had a beautiful sunset and a full moon rise as we were on our way back to the dock with Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises. This video begins with a few whales (a mother and baby whale pair) as the sun was beginning to set and the whale portion of our trip was ending. It was an awesome whale watch with many whales, dolphins, seals, an ocean sunfish, and even a calf that breached multiple times. None of that in this video as I was mostly taking photos, but I will post photos from this trip soon. Until then enjoy the sunset whale watch video. 8/28/26, Cape Cod Bay/Stellwagen Bank.

I need to mark the date of 8/27/26 down as the best whale watch ever at least for me. The afternoon whale watch began with a large pod of Dolphins off the coast of Provincetown way before we got any anywhere near the whales. When we got to the Whales, well, you can watch the video. I decided to record one minute and one minute only in real time and there are eight breaches in this video. The first one is in the distance, but if you watch closely, you will see them. Photos to come. I also captured some things with my camera that I have never caught before. 🙂🙂❤️❤️🐳🐋🐬 Cape Cod Bay/Stellwagen Bank while out with Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises.
