Kiplinger Photography Portraits for the Wild Hearts in Ordinary Moments. Families + Couples + Maternity Hey friend! Hiking? Love it. Sushi? Can’t resist. Zero regrets. That’s unrealistic!

I’m Ashley—a caffeine-fueled human who runs on coffee, chaos, and creativity. I grew up bouncing between a few different states, but no matter where life has taken me, the Midwest has always had my heart. These days, I live with my other half, Tyler, our two fluffy hooligans (Drogo and Kira, a.k.a. Huskies who pretend they pay rent), and our newest little adventure, Olivia, who joined our squad in

April 2025. Let me tell you, becoming a mom has been one of the greatest blessings of my life and changed the way I view the world. Outside of photography, I’m basically a walking Pinterest board of hobbies. Bonfires, sunsets, traveling, blasting music in the kitchen while cooking dinner—sign me up. And just to sprinkle in some nerdiness, I’ve even got a tattoo of a video game I started playing at the age of eight. When it comes to my work, I’m not here to stage some fake-perfect version of your life. I live for the messy, spontaneous, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments—the genuine laughter, the stolen glances, the little things that make your story yours. I want your photos to feel like you. And bonus? We’re going to have a ridiculous amount of fun while making them. I’ve had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember (shoutout to Mom for always being my OG cheerleader), and capturing raw beauty has never just been a “job” for me—it’s part of who I am. Every click is my way of bottling up joy so you can relive it forever.

Hey y'all... can we talk moms and camera rolls for a sec?

The second my daughter does something even a little bit cute, I whip my phone out and snap it. We all do it, right? Honestly no wonder the cloud storage companies are raking it in... us moms alone are keeping them in business with the THOUSANDS of photos we take of our kids.

But here's the thing I noticed going back through mine... dad's in there. Grandma's in there. The cousins, the friends, whoever happened to be around that day... they all end up in a shot eventually. The only one who never does? Me. The mom. The one holding the phone.

Photographer aside, I'm just as guilty. I'd be lying if I said we've gotten actual family photos since having Olivia (she's 16 months now, so... that tells you everything, ha). And don't even get me started on branding photos... my profile pic is still rocking my old signature blue from 2022. 2022, y'all. (Should I bring the blue back, by the way? Lemme know in the comments, I'm seriously considering it.) My brain just doesn't go there. It's too busy thinking about everyone else to remember I'm allowed to be in the picture too.

Then my girl Sarah snapped these two photos of me and Liv during a little scout sesh (Liv was the real model that day, I was just tagging along). I wasn't posed. I wasn't even looking at the camera. My hair needed a wash and my outfit was... questionable, we'll leave it there. I was just walking to the next spot, camera in one hand, my girl on my hip.

And these? These are some of the most cherished photos I own.

Not the posed ones. The in-the-moment ones.

So mama... if you've been putting off booking a sesh because it feels like one more thing on the list, I get it, I really do. But you deserve to be in these photos too. Not just behind the camera, not just holding the phone... in the actual memory. When's the last time someone got a photo of YOU with your people?

Ok so last night's plan was simple: scout a new location, snap a few test shots, be home before bedtime. Lol. We were not home before bedtime.

My girl showed up to the sesh and took over the whole thing, per usual. Struttin' down the path like she owned it one second, faceplanted in the grass the next (no notes, 10/10 form). My friend tagged along for the ride and neither of us stopped laughing the entire golden hour.

Then scouting turned into a Target run, because diapers and toddler clothes don't buy themselves. And this girl? Decided SHE was running the cart now. Walking is brand new around here, which apparently means marching down every aisle like she's got her own shopping list.

You go looking for pretty light and come home with a whole freaking story instead... plus a new walker who thinks she owns Target too.

New spot: approved. New skill: also approved. Anybody else's kid take over the second they figure out something new?

Last night I was up way later than I should’ve been, re-editing old galleries the way you do when you’re trying to get better at your craft. House was quiet. The only light in the room was my monitor glowing in the dark. And somewhere in that quiet, too-late-for-this kind of hour… my mind started doing the thing it does.

I started combing through gallery after gallery, and instead of seeing what was actually there… a kid mid-cackle, a couple forehead to forehead, somebody’s dog wrecking the whole shot in the best way… I started interrogating it. Is this the one that proves I’m good at this. Would this edit reach the right people. Is this family “impressive” enough to post.

That voice doesn’t win like it used to, but it still shows up… last night it almost had me again, aggressively critiquing my own work like it owed somebody a freaking resume. What’s different now is I catch it faster. I remember who’s actually on the other side of that gallery. Not one of y’all has ever texted me “can you find a better one.” Y’all text me crying happy tears over the blurry one where your kid’s mid-jump. That voice was never about you. It’s me, forgetting for a second that your real life isn’t a performance review.

And look, y’all… I’m human too. I’d bet half of you have hovered over the post button on a family pic wondering if it’s “good enough” for your own feed. Turns out we’re doing the exact same thing to ourselves, just from opposite sides of the camera.

So here’s where I’ve landed… the real ones ARE the good ones. Full stop. Hair waving in wind trying to steal the moment, a smile that is so damn big your cheeks basically push your eyes close. Those are what I post now, on purpose, because those are the ones that’ll wreck you in the best way ten years from now.

If you’ve ever hesitated to book because your family is loud or messy or “not photogenic”… that was never a real reason. That’s the whole reason I show up. I don’t edit y’all into somebody else’s highlight reel. I catch you being exactly, gloriously you, and then I stand behind it. Mess and all.

That’s what you get when you book me. Not perfect. Real, and I’m freaking proud of it.

What’s a “messy” moment from your family you’d never trade for a posed one? Tell me below, I wanna hear it~ ❤️

Hey y'all... this one's personal, so bear with me for a second...

The last few days, Central Eastern Indiana got hit with torrential rain and record breaking flooding, and Cambridge City took some of the hardest damage. My mom, Linda, grew up there with her brother and sisters, and I asked her to share what that town means to her:

"Many thoughts and much love to everyone in my home town. As I see these posts and on the news my heart breaks. The flood waters in Cambridge City, Indiana are just devastating. My brother, sisters and I grew up in Cambridge City and what a wonderful Midwest town to call home. My family owned Kippy's Record Shop, my dad was Chief of Police, and we were very involved in the community. The people of Cambridge City made it a place where you felt safe and I have such wonderful memories. Stay strong and please be safe. Sending my love and prayers."

That's my mom, Linda... and reading her words, watching a place that shaped her this way get torn apart, is a different kind of grief. And knowing how many other families across the state are watching their homes and memories wash away right alongside hers? That's not something I can just scroll past. So here's what I'm doing about it.

Indiana Strong "Pay-What-You-Can" Mini's
• Sunday, August 30th at Eagle Creek (weather backup date: Saturday, September 5th)
• 5 images, 10 minutes... quick, simple, no pressure
• 6 spots total, booking link is in the comments
• Pay what you can ($25 to book, extra welcome day-of too)
• All proceeds will be split between Wayne County Foundation "Support Flood Relief" fund as well as Firefly Children & Family Alliance

Don't want a sesh but still want to help? I gladly take donations to add to our drop-off, no booking required. Just shoot me a message and we'll figure out a pickup or drop-off that works for you.

What's needed most:
• Clothing, all sizes newborn through adult, all seasons
• Nonperishable foods (canned food, peanut butter, trail mix & nuts, dried fruit, jerky, ready-to-eat-cereals, crackers, granola bars, etc.)
• Baby Items (diapers, unopened cans of formula, jars of puree, baby wipes, etc.).
• Basic hygiene items (soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products, wash cloths/towels, hand sanitizer, etc.)
• Cleanup supplies (buckets, mops, bleach, disinfectant wipes, trash bags, work gloves, tarps, ponchos, masks, rakes)
• Batteries
• Flashlights
• Bottled water
• Pet food & supplies
• Gift cards... grocery, gas, hardware store
• Got something else useful that's not on this list? Bring it anyway, we'll take it.

You don't need a big reason for this one. Just a heart that wants to help, whether that's 10 minutes in front of my camera or a bag of stuff from your closet. Grab a spot, drop off a donation, or just share this with someone who might... every single bit of it helps. Cambridge City raised my mom. The least I can do is show up for it now.

Whether you book a sesh, donate, or do none of the above, a simple share would mean the absolute world. Spread the word, and spread the love

Ok lovelies, I am WAY too excited for this one... it's winner time!!

Massive thank you to everyone who followed, liked, shared, and tagged your people... y'all showed up for this one in the best way. Picking felt too big a job for just me, so I let a wheel decide (very scientific, I know).

Drumroll please... congrats to Julie Brovont!! I'll be reaching out to you directly to get your Fall Mini locked in, so keep an eye on your DMs.

And to everyone who entered or was hoping to snag a spot... all Fall Mini sessions are officially booked up! I am so freaking grateful for how fast this filled. If you want to be the first to know if anything ever opens back up, just send me a message and I'll keep you in the loop~

Hey lovelies~ currently making the drive back from Dale Hollow and soaking up every last second of it (yes, even the “are we there yet” energy from this one).

This trip gave me exactly what I needed… slow mornings, way too much time on the water, and a whole lot of remembering why I do what I do (hint: it’s the people, always the people).

Home soon and so ready to dive back in with y’all. Also… stick around tomorrow, because I’m announcing a winner for that fall mini giveaway. 👀

Hey y'all!!

Tomorrow's the day... last minute errands, packing, and probably one too many "wait did I forget the sunscreen" moments happening over here haha. So if you reach out and I'm a little slow to respond, I promise I'm not ignoring you lovelies... I'm just buried in a suitcase somewhere 😂

Good news though... every single gallery that's been through soft proofing has officially been sent out! That means we are ALL caught up on edits, and I get to head into this trip with a totally clear plate. Just pure, unbothered houseboat time starting the 5th~

Well... mostly unbothered. Can we talk about the fact that this houseboat is gonna have TWO cousins under 2 toddling around?? Mom nerves are already activated, haha. Send help (and maybe a life jacket).

A couple things to keep on your radar while I'm off soaking up the sun:
The fall mini giveaway announcement is landing Monday the 10th, once we're back and settled in.
And I've got a hot date with a bunch of other photographers and just the sweetest crew on the 15th... I cannot wait for the magic that's gonna come out of that one.

August is shaping up to be so freaking good, y'all. I'm genuinely so excited for where Kiplinger Photography is headed right now.

What's everyone else got going on this week... any trips, any chaos, any toddlers testing your nerves too? Tell me in the comments, I need the company 😂
