My television neighbor, Joe Negri. (1926-2026) he was Handyman Negri, and owned a music shop on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Many of us that grew up in Pittsburgh also knew him as the host of Adventure Time. I also knew him as a tremendous Jazz Guitarist and educator. The picture posted was made on the porch of Mister Rogers house set in WQED Studio A. Joe always appreciated a “free to him” headshot for his gigs around Pittsburgh. We always had great conversations while in the studio and when I would see him around town. I told him that I played jazz guitar all through middle and high school and that my friends would call me “Joe” referring to Negri, they thought of it as a slight or put down, but I told his I was in good company. I stopped playing seriously when I began to focus on making pictures. I continue to love good jazz guitar and Joe was one of the best. Thank you for playing us out.

I have know Tim for many years, we have had parallel careers, a love of the printed photograph, the photograph in print, because like in magazines and books and we both have found ourselves teaching the next generation - a role I’m pretty sure neither of us expected to do. Opposite coasts and through a slice of serendipity I ran Into my friend as he was walking out. For photographers slices of time is our frame of reference and capturing the right moments is our special sauce. These two frames illustrate all of that. HCB has nothing on my decisive moment.
