Stopping by the market. I had thought about taking the day away from there today. Having been at the markets over the years, sometimes it's hard to be motivated to make images. I had a dilemma... i really wanted to shoot some images today. In stepped the idea to only shoot the market on black and white.
My mind shifted to connection, contrast, and texture.
It was so great meeting Tara and Kenyana Saisi today. Connections matter.

The rocky soil dug at everything that touched it. Dust from the prairie winds covered the sharp shards as they lay hidden. Waiting. Cuts nearly imperceivable, add together over time to render the toughest, useless. But they kept on. The struggle in the heat and humidity made each hill a triumph, only to reveal another hill had taken its place.
With this challenge, she had grown in its presence. She raised her head in the heat to share her beauty to all those that past.

Is throwback Thursday a thing still? I was asked the other day about what image has been my favorite over the years at the market. Honestly there are so many. It really is about the relationships we build and remembering those now gone. I miss chatting with Ed and Debbie. I miss the smoke from WeinerWagon floating across the parking area.

Here is a question for the creatives around here. When you see something, are you compelled to make something of it? Depending on your medium, if you are struck to either capture something or make something... do you immediately HAVE to make it?
I walked by and noticed this katydid on the blinds just inside the back door. My oldest was hurrying to "rescue" it, but I noticed how calm it was. I hollered to wait, ran up to grab a macro lens and a flash, and hurried back.
I saw the texture. I saw the color. I had not noticed the see-through antennae and the sharp hooks on the articulated feet.
Are these moments worth capturing?

Got a call from a friend to meet out as he was in town. I hadn't been to Discourse Brewing yet so we met up there. Cool spot. The ipa's were so good. Hannah was so great with information about the brewery and with the service! I'll have to come back. BUNNIES everywhere!

Time drifted across the face of the clock as the whisps flowed over the craigs in the peaks. Cool breath snuck down from the mountainsides, causing hair to flit and goosebumps to ripple down the arms. Summer came early and the snows did not linger. The sharp snap of dry stems and stocks crackle under foot, giving way to the dull thuds of feet across bare rock.
The trip was short, like the flitting of light across her face.

I remember times being home from school sick. The cinnamon and honey drizzled over bread and butter. The strips of bread, which had been cut lengthwise, dipped into the steaming cup of hot chocolate. Honey and bees. Clover yards where I stepped on a honeybee, barefoot as a kid. I think of these moments as I create today.
Merging modern day techniques of 3d printing with old print making.
Here is an exposure of a cyanotype paper print with a 3d printed resist. The chemicals have become sensitive to UV light, and thus the light creates the exposure. Once exposed, the print will be rinsed under water. I then take a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide and water to set the oxidation in the print.
