Shout out to all of the majestic beasts who’ve brought joy into our lives and left us with broken hearts in their wake.

On Friday, I said goodbye to my first dog, Pete; My heart is absolutely shattered.

Making that final decision is a type of heartbreak nothing can prepare you for- even though I tried...

I put off thinking about it bc I didn’t want to face it and I began to panic when the mobile vet pulled into my driveway.

He began sedation almost immediately and it felt like our goodbye was stolen...

For anyone who’s been here too- you’re not alone. Please share a photo of your fur baby in the comments. And hug your animals a little tighter for me tonight. xoox

The hardest thing I’ve ever done was to say goodbye to my loyal companion, Pete.

He was exceptional, in every way.

And one of my fav stories is where he put himself in our backyard. I was working & he was needy, whining to get my attention. So I sent him up the street to a friend’s house.

Within minutes, I heard him back in my yard whining for attention.

Turns out, he jumped their fence, ran back to my house, JUMPED our gate just to be back in his own yard!

He’s never jumped another fence.

He ran errands with me, he gave comfort when I was sad, and he brought us incredible joy.

In 18 years... what do you want to remember?

I took this 12 years ago, just after we added Pete to our family. Seeing this image on my wall warms my heart.

Every.
Time.

Today, Pete is an old dog nearing the end of his life... and my kid no longer laughs with reckless abandon.

These things make my heart heavy and it's why I'm a photographer.
I want to freeze time for everyone.

A fun fact you might not know 😊 ... my intro photography teacher thought I'd never be any good.

📸 It was my 2nd year of college & I was shooting with a Minolta 35mm film camera. All my exposures were underexposed and I didn't know why.

🤔And that was her answer:
'You just might not be good at this.'

So I worked harder to prove her wrong. 💪

It turned out my camera's meter was broken so my exposures weren't accurate.

But luckily this story has a happy ending!
I launched my 1st website my senior year of college and do you want to know who reached out to ask me to shoot the wedding??

YUP! That teacher who thought I'd never be any good!!

(PS: I didn't shoot the wedding, btw. I'm not that nice 😜)
