Okay, so I need to give credit where credit is due.
Yesterday I shared the BIG news that I finally have a studio space after 13 years of making photography happen wherever I could. And I mentioned that my 4-year-old, Lyanna, was the photographer behind those pictures.
Well… I thought you all deserved to see the little photographer behind the camera.
She took her job VERY seriously. She told me where to stand, what to do with my hands, how to pose, and then gently guided me through the whole thing with the sweetest little compliments and encouragement. Until, of course, she decided she had taken enough pictures and needed to sit down because, according to her… pressing the button over and over again is hard work.
But watching her excitement about photography and listening to her confidently tell me what she thought I should do gave me one of those big pause-and-wow moments.
They are watching. They are watching and they are listening.
Yes, this new chapter is BIG for me. Having a studio, building this business, creating something that fills me up and makes me happy—it means so much to me.
But there’s something even bigger about my kids seeing it happen.
Right now, Lyanna thinks taking pictures is pretty cool. And I’m excited to encourage that as long as she’s interested. But someday, I hope she remembers more than just playing photographer with Mom.
I hope she remembers seeing me build something of my own. That I did work that filled me up and made me happy. That I helped people feel comfortable and confident. That I created something meaningful with the gifts I’ve been given.
Because she’s watching all of it.
And honestly, that might be one of the sweetest parts of this new chapter.
Thank you all so much for the outpouring of support and kind words on yesterday’s post. I was overwhelmed and so humbled by all of your messages and encouragement. I truly did not expect that at all, and it meant more to me than you probably realize.
Also, I think she’s going to need to start charging me for her photography services.
Oh wait… she already does.
One large bag of Blue Razz Sour Patch Kids from the gas station on the way home was apparently her payment for the job.
Shhh… don’t tell the boys. We didn’t get them any, and I told her to destroy the evidence before we got home.
Honestly, pretty reasonable rates for a 4-year-old photographer.
