This is an Eastern Musk Turtle and it no interest in sharing the wide path, even though it was only about 5”.

👃They’re nicknamed “Stinkpots” because they can release a musky scent when they’re annoyed… Luckily, I stayed on his good side - Quick photo and on my way.

🌧️ During a late afternoon, showers were moving through the wetlands. I decided to make a loop even with intermittent rainfall. It actually turned out to be a nice (very damp) walk with plenty of active wildlife to observe along the way, and great views of the dreary panoramic landscapes.

🦉 When I hit the middle of my loop, the Barred Owl owlets were out exploring their neighborhood, and maybe trying to figure out what rain is. 😃

I got lucky here 🍀 I was filming some of their interactions with each other, and then dinner arrived - Frog legs.

The “Sea Hawk” of the Bahamas - A short clip from my phone

A lot of Ospreys are world travelers, flying thousands of miles every year, but the Ridgway’s Osprey is a total local, and a homebody. These birds of prey love the Bahamas so much they make it their home year-round! 🌴

🎣 For them, there’s literally plenty of fish in the sea. One of nature’s most specialized anglers, living that island life. 🇧🇸

30% feathers, 70% attitude, 100% in need of a nap

🚧 “Pardon the spikes, I’m currently under development.”

Those spikes are pin feathers, which are waxy tubes that protect a Tricolored Heron’s new feathers as they grow.
