🇺🇸 SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 — 25 YEARS LATER 🇺🇸
Twenty-five years ago today, our nation witnessed an unimaginable tragedy.
For those of us in the fire service and public safety community, September 11th carries a weight that words can never truly describe.
Today, Tallman’s Fireground Photography remembers the 343 FDNY firefighters who answered the call that morning and made the ultimate sacrifice.
We remember the firefighters who climbed the stairs while others were desperately trying to escape.
We remember the NYPD officers, Port Authority Police officers, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and countless other first responders who gave everything they had in an effort to save others.
But above all, we remember every single person who was lost that day.
The 2,977 lives.
The fathers and mothers.
The husbands and wives.
The sons and daughters.
The brothers and sisters.
The friends, coworkers, and loved ones.
They were firefighters.
They were police officers.
They were EMTs and paramedics.
They were office workers.
They were passengers.
They were people simply going to work, traveling, or beginning another ordinary day.
And then everything changed.
We also remember the thousands of first responders, recovery workers, volunteers, survivors, and families whose lives were forever changed in the years that followed.
Twenty-five years later, their stories still matter.
As photographers, we spend our days documenting the courage of those who answer the call. We photograph the trucks, the helmets, the gear, the smoke, the fire and the moments that most people never see.
But behind every helmet is a person.
And behind every photograph is a story.
Today, we pause from the fires, the calls, and the everyday moments we document to remember the people whose stories must never be forgotten.

One day that changed us forever.
