There’s a funny thing that happens when you start looking for a wedding photographer. At first, you’re looking at the photos. Then you realize you’re also choosing the person who is going to be there for a pretty big chunk of your wedding experience.

I think that second part deserves just as much attention as the first. You should love the work, but you should also love the way your photographer sees people, the moments they notice, the things they care about, and the way they speak to you and make you feel throughout the process.

So if you’re newly engaged and currently deep in the photographer search, don’t just ask yourself, “Do I like these photos?” Ask yourself, “Do I want my story told this way?”

Your kids are allowed to be kids during your session. Run around, get the giggles, take a break, be a little goofy. I don’t expect their attention the entire time, and you shouldn’t have to spend your session trying to get it either.

We’ll get the photos where everyone is looking when it counts, but some of my favorites happen when we give them room to have fun. Less pressure on them, less stress on you, and photos that actually feel like your family.

This proposal was filled with so much excitement, the kind where you can practically feel the adrenaline through the photos. Cat’s cuteness aggression may have also been at an all-time high, which honestly tells you everything you need to know about these two.

Getting to capture the very beginning of a couple’s next chapter will never get old. There’s so much story that comes before “I do,” and I love getting to document more than just the wedding day. The proposal, the engagement, and all the little pieces along the way are part of what got you there.

I loved hearing •FLORIST• perspective on the little things that make a difference when vendors work together. Like taking the extra second to capture the florals she spent hours creating, sharing those images afterward, and remembering that we all have a chance to help each other’s work get seen. It’s such a small part of the wedding day, but a pretty cool reminder that we’re all on the same team.

Your photographer doesn’t need every detail about your family, but a little context can make your wedding day so much easier. Divorced parents, strained relationships, recent losses, or the people you’re especially close with are all helpful to know ahead of time.

It allows me to navigate your day thoughtfully, avoid putting you in uncomfortable situations, and give extra attention to the relationships that matter most.

The goal isn’t to know your family business. It’s to know your people well enough to photograph them with care.
