Is anyone really surprised?
While the town scrutinizes your home and condo through these new inspections —downsizing allowable occupancy and demanding permits for renovations completed by a previous owner 20 years ago, simply because you rent the property—the Mayor is busy selling $900,000 townhouses that don’t even have adequate parking according to the town’s code.
The developer gets paid, the town collects its property taxes, and the Mayor (acting as selling agent) pockets his 2.5% commission—potentially hundreds of thousands on $9 million in sales on 10 units.
Meanwhile, the new owner is left holding the bag if they decide to rent and will be told that it’s only a 3 bedroom home because it does not have adequate parking for a 4 bedroom dwelling.
This is exactly why everyone should do thorough due diligence before buying a home in Ocean City.
