Because wanting, once, got punished — mocked, dismissed, called vain, called too much — and you filed that away as a rule instead of an incident.

You're still living by that rule some old moment wrote for you. It's allowed to expire.

Those wants: MUTED.

She's not waiting for permission. She's waiting to find out if wanting things was ever allowed to be hers in the first place.

Somewhere, wanting things got tangled up with taking something from someone else. This belief isn't protecting her. It's just old.

So, why shouldn't she be allowed?? SHE DAMN WELL SHOULD AND ALWAYS WAS. There was never a real reason. Just a moment, or a thousand small moments, that taught her to act like there was.
