When you’re booking a session, one of the biggest questions is: mini session or full session?
Around here, I call them Short Story Sessions and Storyteller Sessions—because that’s really what we’re doing… telling your family’s story.
A Short Story Session (mini) is 20 minutes and includes 15 images of your choice. These take place at a location of my choice due to the nature of these sessions. We move quickly, I guide you the whole time, and it’s perfect if you’re wanting something simple, updated, and efficient. These are great for busy seasons of life or families who just need a handful of beautiful, meaningful, updated images. You also have the option to upgrade to a full gallery, or purchase additional photos, after viewing them.
A Storyteller Session (full) is up to 60 minutes and includes a full gallery (35+ images). This is where things slow down, creating a relaxed, natural, and unhurried experience from beginning to end. There’s space to explore, to let your kids warm up, and to capture more connection, movement, and creativity—allowing your story to unfold naturally while giving me the opportunity to capture those highly valued candid moments. We take time to let everyone settle in so smiles and connection come naturally, not forced, creating a calm and enjoyable experience without the pressure of rushing. With more time, I’m able to capture a wider variety of images, including different moments, angles, and interactions, resulting in more than just a quick snapshot, but a complete and meaningful story of your family captured in a way that feels authentic and effortless.
I hear this a lot—“I don’t think my kids can handle a full hour.”
And honestly, it’s usually not about the time. Full sessions don’t feel long because we’re not rushing. Kids take the lead in these sessions. They get breaks, we move around, we play, and that’s when the most genuine moments happen. I can usually photograph a full session in less than an hour, but I just put 1 hour as a general time frame so families know we have a full hour if needed.
Both options are valuable—it just depends on what you’re hoping to walk away with.
A short and sweet glimpse, or a fuller, more complete story. 🤎
