Some days it’s watercolor.
Some days it’s AI.
The best work happens when you know how to use both.

What interests me most about AI isn’t replacing photography.
It’s how photography, retouching, and AI can work together to create stronger visual storytelling while still protecting realism, texture, lighting, and taste.

The future of image-making feels less about one tool and more about understanding the entire process.

Before the pixels, the pigment.
Every process needs the other. I just enjoy the whole experience.

I just love creating images in my head and bringing them to life.

Found this old contact sheet from a shoot I did a while back, so I decided to bring it back to life.

This is the kind of AI work I actually love.

Renewed my passport online last week. The process is wild — they have you take your own photo through your laptop camera, click submit, and then a few days later they email you back the version they’re actually going to use.
Here’s the part I can’t get over. The photo I approved on my end? I was smiling. Color. Messy background. Regular selfie energy. What they sent back is this — black and white, background knocked out, neutral expression, regulation-compliant. I have no idea how they got from point A to point B.
I’ve spent a long career retouching faces for a living. I know what background removal looks like. I know what a good desaturation looks like. I don’t know what this is. And the strangest part? I actually look better here than I did in the original.
Somewhere between the we**am and the preview screen, an algorithm made a decision about my face. Fine by me, I guess?

Started with a photo out the window. Added just enough motion to change the feeling. That’s the part of AI I keep coming back to.

04/14/2026

Me: just a subtle little exhale and a tiny movement in the fringe.
AI: absolutely not.

I was trying to take one of my favorite beauty photos and add just a little motion to it. Nothing crazy, just a soft exhale and a tiny bit of movement in the fringe.

After way too many prompts and way too many video generators, AI still had other plans.

Some days it works. Some days it really, really doesn’t.

I was pretty against AI at first.

Honestly, I think part of it was fear. Fear that it would cheapen the work, replace real craft, or make everything look the same.

But the more I learned, the more I realized it’s just another tool. Not a replacement for taste, vision, or experience.

Now I use it to help execute ideas faster, test concepts, and push things further than I could on my own in the same amount of time.

Same eye. More tools. More confidence.
