The Sound Between was a Narrative production, shot entirely on Flug equipment, with a large portion of the film captured right here at our Flug Chelsea facilities.
The film will have its official New York premiere at New York Shorts International Film Festival! If you’re in New York, definitely don’t miss it.
All lighting and camera equipment were provided by Flug. The production was captured on the ARRI , using the Cooke Optics Varotal 18-100mm T3 for present-day scenes and Kowa anamorphic lenses for the past, blending a clean, modern look with a vintage aesthetic to move between timelines. Nanlux Official powered most of the lighting.
For this project, the GF Jib (Grip Factory Munich (GFM)) became an essential storytelling tool. Over 65 shots in the film were captured directly on the Jib, we only stepped off it for maybe two shots. Because The Sound Between is such a movement- and dance-driven piece, it demanded incredibly precise camera angles and fluid motion in every take.
The GF Jib allowed John Engstrom dp to achieve dynamic, expressive shots that simply wouldn’t have been possible otherwise, giving the film the versatility and scope it needed to follow dancers through every angle. Hands down one of the best decisions on this production.
Director Isabella Dominguez thanks Flug for helping bring this film to life, from the team’s efficiency and the beautiful vintage glass that helped achieve the exact look she envisioned when writing the script, to the jib’s unmatched capabilities. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
