Acting is a profession of pretend. Oddly, to be good at it you have to pretend truthfully. You have to be the person that you are portraying. Revealing yourself in the imaginary circumstances. A vivid imagination is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal.

Tomorrow night, game 3, the Knicks have a chance to go up 3-0. Not my president will be attending. He’s attending out of spite. He probably hasn’t watched a game in years. He prefers to watch a riot on tv. We cannot allow his presence to distract from what is happening on the court. We must focus all our energy on our amazing team. It would be great if the cameras did not focus on him for a second. He is not worth a mili-second of our time.

I have never seen this kind of reaction to a NY team in my life. Watch parties everywhere. Fans in a state of exhilaration the likes of which NY has never experienced before.

The formula is simple: Put your full attention on the other person. Don’t try to do anything. Listen. When you listen you connect. React, only when you feel the “pinch.”
