The Giant Shiny Shawarma 🥙Vessel NYC
The Vessel at Hudson Yards. People call it a giant honeycomb, but let’s be real—it looks like a giant copper kebab tower! Bonus trivia: this whole 16-story structure was actually fabricated in Italy before being shipped across the Atlantic in 75 separate pieces! 🚢
"I'll Be There For You!" (Sort Of) ☕💃
Found two dancers right outside 90 Bedford Street—the famous exterior of the Friends Apartment in Greenwich Village! Fun Fact: while Monica and Chandler supposedly lived here, the show was actually filmed on a soundstage in California! The ground floor restaurant below is real though (and yes, people still stop here daily to hum the theme song). 🎵🛋️
Looking UP at the King 🏢👀Empire State Building
Spotted the Empire State Building sneaking through a Macy’s store window display! Random history lesson: when the building was completed in 1931, the spire was originally designed to be a docking station for dirigibles (blimps)! Passengers were supposed to step off airships right into the 102nd floor. Talk about a dramatic commute! 🎈☁️
Mini-Manhattan in the Museum 🖼️🚤Museum of the City of New York
Checking out the hand-painted, interactive model of NYC at the Museum of the City of New York! Back-story: MCNY was founded back in 1923 to preserve the city’s eccentric history, and its very first home was actually inside Gracie Mansion before moving up to Museum Mile! 🤏🏢
Walking on History 🎭🎟️
Strutted through Times Square and found the Broadway theater map stamped right into the sidewalk pavement! Did you know that Times Square was originally called Longacre Square until 1904, when The New York Times moved its headquarters into the building right in the middle of the plaza. 📰✨
Tetris in Real Life 🧱👾
Check out this wild architecture along the East River waterfront! NYC design proves that adults just love playing with giant blocks. 🏗️📐
Canyons of the High Line 🌿🚗The High Line
Took a stroll above the city streets along the High Line in Chelsea! Back in the 1930s, freight trains ran right through the second floors of actual factories and warehouses here to load cargo directly. Today, it’s a floating botanical garden! 🌸🚂
Where History Meets Wall Street 🏛️🔔
Ended the day staring down Wall Street toward Trinity Church. When Trinity’s 281-foot spire was finished in 1846, it was the tallest building in the entire United States for nearly 50 years! Today, it's dwarfed by skyscrapers, but Alexander Hamilton is still resting peacefully right in its churchyard. 🇺🇸📜
Inside a Giant Prehistoric Bird 🕊️
Next up, stepping into The Oculus. Walking inside this place feels like standing in the ribcage of a futuristic dove. Little-known detail: designed by Santiago Calatrava, it’s strategically aligned so that every year on September 11th at 10:28 AM (the time the second tower collapsed), the sun shines directly through the central skylight! ☀️🏙️
