This is Stevie. He’s somewhat of a local celebrity. He’s been spending his summers alone at the same reservoir for at least 5 years. People unethically feed him, so if he sees you he will come right over. On this gorgeous morning he saw me as soon as I dropped my kayak in the water and headed my way. I snapped these shots while he made the journey across the water. While I certainly enjoyed his greeting, I made sure to tell him I had no food for him and there’s plenty for him to forage on himself.

It may seem cute, but please do not feed swans or other waterfowl, as it is harmful to their well-being.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit my friends at Road to Refuge Animal Sanctuary and met Rosé’s baby, Spritz! She is crazy, silly, and so joyful to be around. Rosé’s pregnancy may have been an accident, but sometimes nature does its thing anyways and Spritz is an absolute gift. Every individual at Road to Refuge Animal Sanctuary is given the best care possible for the rest of their lives and Spritz is no exception. She’ll need to be fed, housed, and cared for, for her entire life and that costs money. Many people are unaware of the presence of seals along the coast of lower New England, but moments like this are closer than you may think. In the winter, some seals even travel into the Long Island sound and can be seen resting on rocks right off the coast of Connecticut.

The seal on the left was so annoyed with the seal next to them for trying to squeeze onto the same rock.
