Navarre, our hearts are with every family and local business navigating the aftermath of the hurricane. 🤍

Recovery can feel overwhelming, but community support matters in real ways. When you book an appointment, shop locally, purchase a gift card, share a post or leave a thoughtful review, you help a neighbor keep moving forward.

And if you are a local business owner, please do not feel hesitant to share what you offer. Your work is important, your business supports our community and people want to know how they can help.

Let’s show up for one another as we clean up, repair and rebuild.

Tag a Navarre-area small business you’re supporting this week. 💙

Days 7, 8 and 9 of my photo-a-day challenge for the American Cancer Society.

I had every intention of keeping up with my daily self-portraits, but our first real hurricane experience had other plans.

The last few days have been a blur of preparation, weather updates, supplies, charging everything that can possibly hold a charge and trying to remember where I put the flashlights. I am tired, a little overwhelmed and learning that hurricane prep is basically a full-time job you did not apply for.

And apparently, in the middle of all my stress, the animals have decided that I am the safest place in the house.

Tell me you’re scared of the storm without telling me you’re scared of the storm. 🐾🙀🫣

What do your pets do in a storm?

Day 6 of my photo-a-day challenge for the American Cancer Society.

The Storm

Today’s self-portrait is brought to you by post-surgery mom life, Florida hurricane prep and my newest household appliance: a generator from Ace Hardware of Navarre.

I had every intention of creating something a little more artistic today, but my daughter had surgery and needs her mom. Then hurricane season decided to remind us Floridians that a sunny day can turn into a group project involving bottled water, batteries and panic-buying gas and toilet paper.

Having lived from the West Coast to the East Coast, and several places in between, I have experienced nature showing off in plenty of ways. Apparently, my life’s résumé now includes earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, blizzards and standing in a parking lot proudly posing with emergency equipment.

Today’s portrait may not be glamorous, but it is honest. Hair up, phone in hand, generator secured and doing my best to keep the people I love safe and cared for.

What is the most “you” item in your emergency-preparedness stash? Mine may now be a generator and an unreasonable amount of snacks.

And yes, my custom filter in my storm app is labeled “ugh”

Day 5 of the photo-a-day challenge for the American Cancer Society

The Legacy

I gave today’s self-portrait a retro finish because old photographs have a way of making us stop and stare.

We notice the clothing, the hairstyles, the big families gathered together and the everyday activities that now feel fascinating simply because time has passed. Yet, when those images were created, they were usually just ordinary moments. A disposable camera at school in the ’90s. A family gathering. A quiet afternoon at home.

It makes me wonder: what will everyday life look like when we look back on it years from now?

We live in a world where nearly everything is digital. We create thousands of images, yet so many details can be buried, forgotten or lost in the scroll. A printed piece of artwork from daily life becomes something different. It becomes evidence that we were here, living this season in all its realness.

And honestly, some days my everyday artwork might look just like this: hair in a bun, not dressed up, phone in hand and eyes dry from too much doomscrolling.

I do not want that to be the legacy I leave behind.

This photo-a-day challenge is helping me notice my life more intentionally, step away from the noise and decide what moments are worthy of being remembered. Because they are not just digital files. They are pieces of our story.

What ordinary moment from your life today would you want someone you love to be able to hold in their hands and remember years from now?

Day 4 of my photo-a-day challenge for the American Cancer Society.

Today’s theme is travel, and I keep coming back to the word fernweh, a longing to go, explore and experience somewhere new.

Having a family has softened that restlessness a little, but it has never completely disappeared. Sometimes I need an adventure, a change of scenery and the open road to help me reconnect with myself.

One of my favorite parts of traveling is passing through towns I have never seen before and imagining all the lives, stories and dreams unfolding there. I believe God has His hand in every place, working in beautiful ways from one community to the next.

These images are little glimpses from a recent road trip, reminders that beauty is often waiting just beyond the familiar.

This challenge is helping me slow down, look inward and remember that every season, every road and every story has meaning.

Day 3 of my One Photo a Day Challenge.

Today I wanted to create something glamorous, moody and full of old-school sparkle.

This outfit immediately took me back to a part of myself I have missed deeply, to music and the feeling of telling a story with every note. There was a time when singing was such a big piece of who I was, and although life asked me to set that part aside for a while, it never truly left my heart.

Lately, I have felt a little spark waking back up.

I’m not quite ready to say much more yet, but let’s just say there may be some beautiful new adventures ahead. 🎶

For this One Photo a Day Challenge, I’m giving myself permission to play, create and reconnect with the parts of me that have been waiting patiently for their moment to shine again.

Day 2 of my One Photo a Day Challenge for the American Cancer Society

Besties

This one is arriving a day late, because homecoming prep, life and all the emotions that come with watching your daughter grow up can take over in the sweetest ways.

Homecoming prep has me feeling all the feelings lately.

Somewhere between helping with the dress, admiring the hair and trying not to ask “Do you need me?” every three minutes, I realized I’m learning a new role: Mom of a teenager who is officially *having a life.*

She still calls me her bestie, and while I know she loves me, I’m figuring out the delicate balance of being close enough to cheer her on but far enough back to let her shine.

So naturally, I multiplied myself in this image because apparently one Mom isn’t always sure where she belongs in this fast-moving new season. 😂 The blurred background feels a little like life right now, too. Everything is changing so quickly.

But there she is, becoming more and more herself, and I am so proud I could burst.

And I’m learning to be gentle with myself, too. It is okay that this is posted a day late. Some days, being present for the people we love matters more than checking every box right on time. Day 1 of my photo-a-day challenge for the American Cancer Society

Hello

For my very first self-portrait session, I chose a simple theme: my favorite color. Can you guess what it is?
I used my Canon camera’s timer, on-camera flash, a painterly Photoshop edit, and my wedding shoes as a prop. Yes, I used to wear these six-inch heels with no problem!

I’ll admit, I felt awkward in front of the camera. I used to model when I was younger, but after spending so many years behind the camera, being the subject felt completely different. Between my family stopping by, feeling insecure in some of the outfits, and being tired at the end of the day, I found myself second-guessing things throughout the session.

Then I realized this is exactly how many of my clients feel when they arrive for their sessions. I’m glad I pushed through and encouraged myself the same way I encourage them. I spent the entire session hyping myself up—which explains all the giggles!

I put this off until the end of my to-do list and didn’t finish until after 8 p.m., but I’m so glad I made time for myself. I felt a little glamorous, learned something new, and stepped outside my comfort zone.

This color is also associated with breast cancer awareness, and I always look forward to local “Pink Out” events that help spread awareness and support the cause. One day down!
