gatekeeping??? never heard of her 🙂‍↔️ this is how i landed five of the coolest jobs of my career, from photographing rob rausch BTS on set to shooting a magazine editorial on cape cod!!!

you might notice a theme emerging as you look through these, and it’s that almost 100% of the time, taking good photos isn’t the only thing landed me the job. yes, your work matters—but so does networking!!! so does being easy and fun to work with!!! so does being loud and proud about what you do!!!!

i wouldn’t have gotten hired for any of these shoots if i didn’t have the portfolio for it. but i share this to say that a lot of the time, getting the coolest jobs is a combination of skill AND knowing the right people. or maybe i should say it another way, because knowing the right people is a skill in itself! it’s a product of networking, consistency, energy, and hard work.

spent some time digging through the archives this week and decided these photos from last summer needed to make a reappearance 🍋

one of my favorite summer photoshoots i’ve ever done, for a few reasons:

🍑 there’s nothing better than seeing a photoshoot concept come to life (and knowing that you made it happen!!). making art with cool people >>

🍒 the opportunity to shoot a new concept!!! never used fruit as a prop, before so had to go all in and use four different kinds with four different looks 😌

🍊it was my first time working with mia + kasey and wow am i lucky because they are both so sweet and so talented. still amazed by mia in every single one of these photos, and kasey’s incredible makeup look that didn’t move despite it being maybe 90 degrees when we shot these 😅

if there’s one thing i wish i could get everyone to understand, it’s that you don’t need to lose weight for your photoshoot.

you don’t need to photoshop yourself smaller, or ask your photographer to make you look thinner.

you don’t need to change anything about who you are to be worthy of getting in front of the camera.

in a time where you can’t go 5 minutes without hearing something about ozempic or seeing a photo of a celebrity showing off their visible ribcage, this is something i want to be really loud about. and i won’t go on a whole rant about how our culture prizes thinness above all else (when literally anything else about a person is inifinitely more interesting) for some reason, or tell you that if i hear one more person talk about GLP-1s i am probably going to scream (even though it’s true) but i will say:

you deserve photos of yourself that you love, exactly as you are right now. because you don’t need to change anything about yourself to be worthy of stepping in front of the camera.

i love planning editorial photoshoots around things that inspire me. sometimes the concepts are deep or in-depth (maybe inspired by a movie or album, an emotion i want to portray, a scene i want to create, etc.) but sometimes it’s as simple as… I LOVE ICE CREAM!!!!!!

no but seriously, ice cream is my favorite food and it was so fun to plan a summery photoshoot using it as a prop!!! the team and i had so much fun playing around and getting messy to create some of my fave summer photos EVER 🌞

and okay yes i joke, but a lot of thought went into this one (just like all my shoots!). we wanted to capture that end of summer joy, but also show that everything has to come to an end… summer and ice cream cones included 🍦

photography is just one of the many ways i like to get creative in my life!!!! here are a few more that i’ve been practicing this year (spoiler alert: i definitely liked some more than others 😳)

it’s so important to me to flex my creativity in other ways so i stay inspired in my work, and don’t burn out with photography as my only creative outlet. plus, i find that getting creative when i’m not working on photo things only makes my photo work stronger!!!
