A late afternoon visitor to our backyard, perched on a neighbor's fence. I kept finding feathers in the grass but had not seen the attacker until Sharon looked out before sunset and saw this Cooper's hawk sitting on our fence. It drifted over to the neighbor's fence, dropped down into the grass and smothered what I think was a chipmunk and flew off.

Yesterday I happened to see one in bright sunshine and the gold in its wings shimmered with a metallic effect. Unfortunately, the camera cannot capture it, but at least this image shows the tone.

We have had an unusually wet July which has given me an opportunity to look for different subjects for photography. I found a setup for a Rose of Sharon blossom viewed through a raindrop on a leaf end.
