It’s National Pecan Day!

And it’s hard not to recycle photos from past years…

Eating my grandmother’s pecan pie as a child was the beginning of an obsession for me — Tweaking and perfecting her recipe with the addition of fresh peaches and peach brandy was a joy (find the recipe in The Hachland Hill Cookbook).

I was schooled in classic southern pecan applications by Miss Ruth Williams, my grandmother’s steadfast employee at Hachland Hill for 60+ years. Ruth was a confidant to her, and second grandmother/mentor to me.

I swap the almonds for pecans when I do bear claws now too, because when in Tennessee 🐻

Happy International Women’s Day 💪🏻

Our wonderful woman on the Hill today wrote the below:

Reflecting on International Women’s Day, I feel incredibly fortunate to work at Hachland Hill, a place founded by the remarkable Phila Hach, where hospitality has always been at the heart of everything we do.

Phila created a space where people gather around the table, where food is shared with intention, and where welcoming others is truly an act of love.

Today, her legacy continues through our Executive Chef, Carter Hach, who honors his grandmother’s vision by blending flavors from cultures around the world into his elevated Southern cuisine.

At Hachland Hill, we love welcoming groups of all kinds—whether for retreats, celebrations, or simply a shared meal—and giving them the chance to experience food made with heart.

“Once a holiday staple across Nashville — and nearly forgotten today — spiced round returns for a one-night-only celebration. This 19th-century delicacy of brined, spiced beef was born in Germantown’s old meatpacking district, where butchers blended necessity with heritage to create a uniquely local tradition.

Join Nashville’s leading chefs for an inspired, multi-course supper that honors the city’s culinary roots and rekindles a classic holiday tradition.

All proceeds of this dinner benefit Room in the Inn.”
