How big should artwork actually be on your wall?

A good starting point is the 2/3 rule: your artwork should span roughly two-thirds of the width of the furniture beneath it.
For example, if your sofa is 90 inches wide, look for artwork, or a grouping of artwork, around 60 inches wide.

Artwork that’s too small can feel like it’s floating. The right scale can make the entire room feel more balanced and thoughtfully designed.

This is one reason I encourage my clients to think beyond the individual portrait and consider the entire wall. 🤍
