This is a first for me.

I’ve had plenty of photos in magazines via brand work and ads, but to have my images selected by the editor for an article feels a bit more special.

These shots were from a trip a few years back in Arkansas with my good buddy Luke Moore. We both brought our grandfathers guns and headed for the timber. A great way to keep the legacy alive and out of a cabinet. This was a special trip.

I’m honored to have this photo essay in the latest copy of Delta Waterfowl. Since I started taking hunt photos, having my shots in a magazine was a goal of mine.

Thanks to everyone who has championed me along the way, given me advice, or simply liked a photo here. It means a ton!

Phil Kahnke needs a special shout out for spending time answering questions on the phone and letting me bug him. Thank you Phil, I appreciate your friendship and all the advice.

Improper air presentation and lack of air control is a common mistake. With a duck call you can manipulate airflow with your tongue and throat. For cadences, think of it as one big stream of air that you are turning on and off like a spigot with your tongue.

This season was an odd one for me but filled with so many great memories.

Odd because I didn’t travel at all. Just stayed right here in Tennessee. Odd because we had an EARLY spring. Birds were ahead of their normal schedule making “late season” habits start much earlier. Odd because it barely rained. It was so dry the lake was at winter pool levels.

But man the oddities made the season that much more memorable. I got to share a first hunt with , didn’t get a bird but she got close to a gobbler!

My second gobbler did not gobble once, making it a tough hunt. Not to mention I didn’t have a shell in the 870 when he was at 15 yards…

Got close several times with good friends making some great memories none of us will forget.

20 frames isn’t enough, so here’s a glimpse into the good times had this April and May.
