House of Touché understood the Halloween assignment. 🖤

We photographed their spooky-glam looks at A&K Alder Farm, with smoke rolling through the orchard, rich fall florals, and enough drama to make us very happy. Every person brought something different to the shoot, and that’s what made it so good!

October “vacation” recap: we both took time off our 9-to-5s to photograph five incredible weddings, and drove over 1,000 miles and took four ferry rides to be there for all of them.

We loved every one of them. Now we’re back in the thick of day-to-day life, editing all those galleries and getting to relive each wedding as we go. There’s a whole lot happening behind the scenes over here, even when our cameras are a little more quiet.

A little hello from the two people behind the cameras (and currently behind the editing screens). We’re tired, grateful, and so excited to get these photos back to our couples. 💛

And for the most important fall update: Bean (Winnie) remains extremely cute. 🍂🐶

On October 26, 1996, intersex activists stood outside a pediatricians’ conference in Boston. They spoke out against nonconsensual surgeries on intersex infants and demanded that doctors listen to people who had lived through them.

They were dismissed. The work didn’t stop.

Thirty years later, the call for bodily autonomy continues. Today we’re honoring the people who made that protest possible and the advocates still doing the work. Listen to intersex people, share their words, and let them lead the conversation.

Ace Week starts today. 🖤🤍💜

Ace is an umbrella for identities on the asexual spectrum. Being ace doesn’t tell you whether someone wants a partner, a wedding, romance, or physical affection. There isn’t one ace relationship to use as a template.

Asexual Awareness Week began in 2010 because ace organizers wanted visibility and inclusion, including within LGBTQ+ spaces. That’s part of LGBTQ History Month, too: people making room for themselves when the broader community hadn’t.

This week, listen to ace people telling their own stories. And if you’re a wedding vendor, take that lesson into your work: ask how a couple wants to show affection, offer options, and don’t default to “now kiss” as your only prompt.

Okay, this is a big one: A+K Photography is officially a Certified Queer-Affirming Business through the Affirming Business Institute!

We’re a q***r wife + wife team, and this means so much to us. Affirming LGBTQIA+ couples has been part of A+K from day one. We wanted to take the training to see what else we could learn, and to give couples a clear sign, before they even reach out, that they can be themselves with us.

Much of the course for wedding photographers affirmed things we had already built into our process, from our inquiry forms and contracts to how we pose and prompt. We still wanted to hear from a q***r expert, question our habits, and keep learning. The details matter when someone is trusting us with their wedding.

To our fellow wedding vendors: we really encourage you to seek out q***r-affirming training, too. Even when you already care deeply, there is so much value in looking closely at how that care shows up in your work.

If you’re planning a wedding and want photographers who will see your love as it is, we’d freaking love to meet you. 💛

Finally getting to share Jane (she/her) + Sherri (she/her) at The Hall at Fauntleroy! 🥹💛

A wedding day moves so fast. We love getting to hand back the moments a couple remembers and the ones they couldn’t have seen while they were living it. Looking through Jane + Sherri’s gallery, we’re reminded how many stories can be happening at once: the two of them, their people, and all the little in-between bits that make a day theirs.

Happy International Pronouns Day. Wedding vendors, please don’t make a couple correct your whole team one person at a time.

Give clients a place to share the names and pronouns they want you to use. Ask where it’s okay to use them, around family, with the vendor team, and in anything public. People may use different language in different spaces, and that decision belongs to them.

Then actually use what they told you. Check timelines, scripts, introductions, signage, and social captions before anyone else sees them. If you slip, correct yourself briefly and keep going. Please don’t turn it into a long apology they have to comfort you through.

Do this work before the wedding so the people getting married can spend the day being together, not teaching every vendor who they are.

Sometimes you need a real place to go. To ask a question, find affirming care, hang out with other q***r people, or just be in a room where you don’t have to explain yourself. 💛

That’s what LGBTQ+ centers can be. Today is LGBTQ+ Center Awareness Day, and we want to show some love to the people making those spaces possible. Depending on the center, that can mean youth programs, help finding care, a resource library, art, events, or simply a chance to connect.

If there’s a center near you, take a look at what it offers and what it needs. Share its work, volunteer, donate if you can, or tag it here so more people can find it.
