June 26 marks the anniversary of marriage equality becoming federal law in the U.S.

That is worth celebrating.

And also, legal recognition is not the same thing as safety, acceptance, or full liberation.

Q***r couples deserve more than the right to get married. They deserve wedding days where their love is not questioned, their names are said correctly, their families are respected, and their joy is protected.

We’re grateful for every q***r couple who gets to stand in front of their people and say, “This is us. This is ours.”

That will never stop mattering. 🌈

Q***r couples do not all “look q***r.”

Q***rness does not have one outfit, one haircut, one relationship dynamic, one gender presentation, or one way of showing up in photos.

Some q***r couples get read as straight.
Some are bi, pan, ace, trans, nonbinary, fluid, questioning, or navigating identity in ways strangers would never know from the outside.

That is why we ask couples how they identify if they want to share.

Not because anyone has to prove anything to us.

Because we do not want to assume. And because the more we understand what matters to you, the better we can care for you.

We understand q***r folxs because we are q***r folxs.

And we want your experience with us to feel like you were never asked to fit into someone else’s idea of what q***r love is supposed to look like.

Inclusive language does not have to be complicated.

You do not need to guess.
You do not need to assume.
You do not need to decide what sounds “right” from the outside.

Just ask people what they want to be called and what they want their day to feel like.

Then listen.

Then use the words they gave you.

That one small step can make a couple feel so much safer, calmer, and more cared for before the wedding day even begins.

Before Stonewall, there was Compton’s.

In August 1966, trans women, drag queens, and q***r folks at Compton’s Cafeteria in San Francisco fought back against police harassment.

At the time, trans and gender-nonconforming people were regularly targeted just for existing in public. Compton’s was one of the places people gathered, built community, and found each other, until that space was no longer safe either.

So they resisted.

Q***r history has always included trans people.
Q***r resistance has always included trans people.

One thing we love about q***r weddings is how often couples give themselves permission to make a day that actually fits them.

Mae (they/them) + Leo (he/they) did exactly that.

Their wedding was not about checking every expected box or making the day make sense to everyone else.

It felt like them.

Their people.
Their pace.
Their kind of joy.

That’s the dream, really.

Not a wedding that performs well for strangers on the internet.
A wedding that feels right while you’re living it.

Happy Fathers Day!

Today we’re celebrating q***r dads, trans dads, chosen dads, father figures, and the dads who show up fully for their q***r kiddos.

The ones who don’t make love conditional.
The ones who learn.
The ones who listen.
The ones who make home feel safer.
The ones who make sure their kids know they are loved exactly as they are.

That kind of support matters.

And if today brings up grief, distance, complicated family feelings, or anything tender, we’re thinking of you too.

There’s room here for all of it. 🌈

Happy wedding day to Lucy (she/her) + Cory (they/them)!

Today these two get married, and we are so excited to spend the day celebrating, documenting, probably crying a little, and watching all the pieces of their story come together.

There is something extra special about walking into a wedding day already knowing it’s going to be full of intention, love, and people who are so ready to cheer these two on.

Lucy + Cory, we can’t wait to photograph the heck out of your day!
Let’s get you married!

Happy Juneteenth ❤️💛💚

Today we’re celebrating freedom, Black joy, Black history, and the generations of people who kept going, kept building, kept creating, kept loving, and kept fighting for liberation.

As q***r business owners, we know Pride is not separate from this history. Black q***r and trans people have shaped so much of our community’s culture, resistance, and joy.

May this be a day of rest, remembrance, learning, joy, and action.

Happy Freedom Day.

A little personal post: today Alexis graduates college, and I am so proud I could burst!

When I met her six years ago, she hadn’t had the chance to finish high school. Since then, I’ve watched her choose herself again and again.

She helped build A+K Photography.
She worked full time.
She got her GED.
She earned her Associate’s in Billing and Coding.
She studied through long nights, stressful seasons, and everything life kept throwing at her.

And today, she graduates at the top of her class, with a President’s Medal, and a passed national exam behind her.

This is Pride too.

Building a life we once weren’t sure we’d get to have. Watching the woman I love become more fully herself. Getting to celebrate her loudly, publicly, and without shrinking any of it.

Alexis, I am endlessly proud of you.

You did this.
You deserve this.
And I love you so much.

xoxo,
Katrina 🌈

Not every q***r wedding has rainbow florals, matching Doc Martens, a dramatic outfit reveal, or a dance floor full of glitter.

Sometimes it’s just two q***r people getting married, eating cake, hugging their people, and having a really good day.

Still q***r.
Still iconic. 🌈
