To our beloved community of believers –
On September 10th, Jim Lippert, whom we all lovingly know in our hearts as Santa Claus, passed away. For the past 20 years Jim put on the red suit and brought Christmas hope and cheer to Skagit County and beyond. Thousands of families followed him year after year to various malls, craft events, parades, furniture stores and lumberyards to get their annual pictures with the “real” Santa. Jim will forever be memorialized in these photos and will be remembered every year as the families he came to know so well decorate their homes for the holidays.
For the last 4 years Jim was blessed to be able to create his own family business, I Heart Santa Claus, and dedicated the majority of November and December to creating magical experiences with families far and wide. Through your support, Jim pursued one of his lifelong goals of giving back to the children of the Skagit Valley and has countless donations, including warm jackets, bicycle helmets, new toys, canned foods, and more than $5,000 in donations to various local family charities. We can never thank you enough for making it the success that it was and for joining us year after year.
Jim’s sons, AJ and Dustin, are working to turn I Heart Santa Claus into a nonprofit that carries on their dad’s motto of “making a difference in someone’s life.” The plan is to continue collecting warm jackets, canned food, and toys for families who need a little extra help. More details will come as they learn and grow this new dream. This holiday season will look different for all of us, and the tradition of dressing up for photos with the real Santa will be deeply missed.
Still, the elves will return to set up Santa’s living room one more time. From December 7–14 at Sound Cedar Lumber, you’re welcome to visit the set, sit on Santa’s bench, and take your own family photos—free for all. Santa’s suit will be on display to honor the man who wore it so well.
We’ll also announce upcoming dates for donation-based professional photos, along with jacket, food, and toy drives.
So this year, we’re honoring him in a different way. Help us spread the magic of Santa Jim—wear your silly hats, decorate your homes big and bold, cheer loudly for your favorite sports teams, lend a hand to someone who needs it, and tell the people around you how much they matter. Keep the joy alive, and never stop believing.
