Here's another view of some of the steeples and building tops in Downtown Monongahela, from a slightly different angle looking down the valley from the Mon City Bridge, giving a slightly different perspective than the previous image I shared with you all earlier, but I really liked this shot as well, so I decidede to share it also. This image includes more details in the church steeples, and also includes Monongahela Manor in the left side of the frame, and the old Mitchell Power Plant in the distance down near New Eagle, in the background of this image. The sky was on fire, and this was one of those sunsets where the color just kept getting better and better as the sunset continued, and the colors lingered for quite a while, allowing me to capture quite a few images that I was happy with this evening. Enjoy!

I decided to head down into town this evening to capture the sunset over the valley tonight, and the sky did not disappoint! I went down to the Mon City Bridge to capture the stunning sky over Downtown Monongahela, as the sky began to illuminate with orange and yellow hues. This particular shot shows the old stone steeple of Monongahela Heritage Church, along with a few other buildings along West Main Street, including the steeple of the First United Methodist Church. It had been quite a while since I've captured a sunset in the Mon Valley, so I was happy to capture this one this evening! I have quite a few more images from this evening's beautiful sunset over my town of Monongahela, so stay tuned for those. Enjoy!

Here's another shot of the Historic Boston Cantilever Bridge spanning across the Youghiogheny River, between Versailles and "Boston" (Elizabeth township), this time from the Versailles side, as a single car drives over the bridge. I really like this angle because the trees on either side of Walnut Street center the bridge. I also think it's interesting that the color of the bridge is almost identical to the shade of blue that the sky was on this warm, perfectly clear early afternoon. I will definitely have to keep this area in mind to capture in the future more, and though I mainly enjoy capture the cities and towns along the Monongahela River, there are some unique areas along the Youghiogheny River as well, with a similar feel and culture in these towns and communities, just as the cities and towns in the Mon Valley feel, with a unique charm. Enjoy!

Here's a shot I took this past Saturday early afternoon, from along the Youghiogheny River from near Boston Ballfield Park, as my wife's cousin was playing a softball game at Ronald Lee Wise "Rhino" Memorial Field in the community of Boston, about 10 minutes from the City of McKeesport, at the border of Elizabeth Township, though technically McKeesport addresses. I had never visited this location before, and I know it's tehcnincally not necessarily the Mon Valley, but an area near the Mon Valley that ties into the Mon Valley, so I decided to capture some images shortly after the game had ended.

The Youghiogheny River was pretty brown and high due to the significant rainfall we had last week, but I was still able to find this unique composition which frames the Historic Boston Cantilever Bridge spanning between "Boston" and Versailles Borough. A few homes can be seen perched along the valley-side on the Versailles side of the Youghiogheny River in this shot, looking undernieth the bridge from this particular vantage point. I have few more images that I took on Saturday afternoon that I'll be sharing as well, but I wanted to start off with this shot. Enjoy!

Here's a shot from yesterday morning, from the Memorial Day service at Monongahela Cemetery, as a reading was taking place, and I was able to capture two veterans listening to the speaker, as the color guard sit with the flags. What I really like about this shot is the symbolism that is shown here, and really what Memorial Day is all about. Thank you to all of the veterans here in the Mon Valley, surrounding areas and across the nation who have served this country, and especially to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, as Memorial Day so honors. I have some more images to share from yesterday, but I especially liked how this composition came together. Enjoy!

Here are some shots I took this morning during the Memorial Day Parade going up West Main Street, featuring some veterans in the Honor Guard, Ringgold Marching Band, some decked out jeeps from the Mon Valley Jeepers, and a few local firetrucks and ambulances to Monongahela and the Mid Mon Valley. It started out as a mostly cloudy morning, but as the day went on, the sun did begin to shine later into the morning as my family and I went up to the Monongahela Cemetery for the Memorial Service, which I also captured and will share some of those images later this evening, but for now, sticking with these images from the parade. I hope you all have had an enjoyable Memorial Day with friends and family, remembering the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our sacred freedoms here in America. Enjoy!

Want to wish everyone a great day on this Memorial Day, as we remember those who have went before us to give the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms here in America. This is an image I took last year actually, and a year ago yesterday, one afternoon, as I had went out to Donora to capture some images on McKean Avenue of the flags along the street in Downtown Donora. I knew these scenes would be perfect for Memorial Day. This was the best shot I took from this vantage point, looking up McKean Avenue across 6th Street, and I was at the right place at the right time and happened to capture a Mid-Mon Valley Transit Bus traveling through Donora, headed to New Eagle. A lot of the towns up and down the Mon Valley put up flags along their Downtown stretches, and Donora especially looks great with the flags, along with the old historical buildings, and the bus really was the perfect element to complete this classic Mon Valley scene. Enjoy!

Also, I know it’s been a few months since I’ve posted, and I WILL be back to posting regular hopefully starting today. I’ve missed sharing the Mon Valley with you all through my images, but my wife and I have had a lot going on over these last few months with our little one, Joanna, including multiple hospitals visits/stays, for some health things she has going on. I’ll try to keep this brief, but she is doing well now, but she was not gaining proper weight for whatever reason, so we had to get her a feeding tube. In addition to that, we found out she has hip displasia in her left hip, and a hernia in her right hip. She wears a brace at night for the hip displasia, and will be having surgery on June 10th for her hernia. Would appreciate your prayers as we navigate through these challenges to care for our seven month old daughter as best as we can.

I’ll be out capturing the Memorial Day Parade in Monongahela this morning and Memorial Day service at Monongahela Cemetery later this afternoon, so hopefully the rain holds off. I’m looking forward to sharing my images with you all again. Have a great day everyone. Enjoy!

Taking it back to end of January, as I have quite a few snowy scenes to share from end of January from the lower Mon Valley, from some of the last major snowfalls from the Winter, but wanted to get back to regular posting after taking a long break for a while. Here’s a shot I Took in Duquesne, back in end of January, as some snow was still falling that evening. This a scene from the corner of Grant Avenue and South 2nd Street. The clock towers make for a perfect subject in the middle of the scene, as a pedestrian waits for one of the Port Authority Buses of Allegheny County. The old buildings in what is left of Downtown Duquesne offer a nostalgia to this wintry Mon Valley scene. Enjoy!

Taking it back to last month, when the Mon Valley got almost 10 inches of snow, at least in this stretch, as I went up to Rivers of Steel: The Pump House to capture what I thought would be some unique winter scenes, as the snow was still falling on that evening, as dusk set in. This shot features a tree centered in front of the Pinkerton's Landing Railroad Bridge between Munhall and Rankin/Swissvale, It also features the Homestead Labyrinth, below the bench in the snow-covered open space along the Monongahela River. I really like the solemn feel this image creates, at least in my opinion, and I knew this would be a perfect scene to create a snow-globe composition, as that is one of my favorite in-camera techniques to do. I still have several more images from the big snowstorm from a few weeks back, so stay tuned for those. Enjoy!

Hello, everyone! I know it's been over a week since my last post, but our family has been under the weather for over the last week, and have been going to bed earlier, and busy helping the wife with the little one as well, so took a little break from my page for a bit, but getting back to hopefully more regular posts like usual, starting now, and hopefully over these next few days, but good to be back! I still have quite a few more snowy winter scenes to share with you all from the big snow storm we had almost two weeks ago, so I'll start with this image here.

Taking it back to a week and a half ago, when the Mon Valley got all of that snow, when I went up to Rivers of Steel: The Pump House to capture some interesting winter scenes that I had in mind, and I absolutely love how this one turned out! This shot was taken from behind the Pump House, near a wall along the Monongahela River, looking out over the frozen water at the Pinkerton's Landing Bridge, which is still an active railway which allows trains to travel over the river from Munhall to the Rankin/Swissvale side of the river. Although a train traveling across the bridge at the time of this photo would have been perfect, I still really like the feel of this shot, and the mood that it sets, as the falling snow flakes against the dusk sky and the mostly frozen river really creates a unique calmness to this image in my opinion. Like I said, I should be back to more regular posts now and sharing a few images each day like usual with you all, so hoping to get back to it! Sometimes it's nice to have a bit of time away and sort of have a reset, so I wanted to choose a good image to get things going again. Enjoy!
