I love exploring the crazy abandoned places Patrice Cooper and I drag each-other into.

These were shot with my Rolleiflex and Lomography “Metropolis” 120 film. Metropolis is supposed to be designed for gritty, urban settings… so these shots were a pretty good fit for it I think?!

One of the reasons I love analog film photography is that different film stocks produce different looks tonally. I love any form of photography; incredible images can be created digitally, but there’s a life and a soul to film that I also appreciate. It helps me feel more grounded… especially as we accelerate more deeply into a primarily digital existence in other aspects of life.

Does anyone else feel a desire (need?!) to “disconnect” through an analog or traditional process? Ditch the virtual for a moment? Creating something, reading a (real/actual/bound) book, or…?

I’d love to hear other thoughts on this - what keeps YOU grounded these days?

“Spanning the St Croix” - Looking toward Minnesota along the St Croix Crossing bridge. Black and White seems to work so well for architectural and bridge photos and this one really resonated with me of the shots I took that day. I also learned that this is a fairly unique style of bridge (extrados), and is only the 5th bridge of it’s kind in the U.S. It’s quite striking regardless!

“St. Croix Crossing” - As much as I love the old Stillwater lift bridge, I have to admit the St. Croix Crossing bridge is pretty spectacular in its own right. I really loved the clouds in this one and the sense that the bridge is almost floating above the trees or supported by them.

A total is happening today across parts of Iceland and Spain. It was such a bucket-list sort of experience to witness when I got to see it with my wife Patrice in 2024. We left a couple of days early and spent time in St. Louis, figuring we could adapt from there if the weather dictated as far as visibility. Fortunately the weather cooperated and we were able to take in the incredible 4 minutes (give or take) near the town of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Who else saw the eclipse in 2024?? If so where were you and what stood out to you about the experience?

“Big Red” - Holland Lighthouse in Holland Michigan, aptly nicknamed “Big Red”, is easily one of my favorite along the Eastern Shore of Lake Michigan. And there are a LOT of great lighthouses along Michigan’s “Gold Coast”.

Mikwaukee at Sunset, as seen from Lakefront Park. I’d decided to drive to Milwaukee to take some photos around the city, and after a few delays along the drive, managed to catch this amazing sunset just as it was disappearing below the horizon. This photo looks amazing printed on metal by the way!
