I'm thrilled to have recently sold a print of this image, captured in November of 2019 at Diamond Beach in Iceland. Diamond Beach is a photographer's dream. Massive, sparkling icebergs drift toward the black sand shoreline, creating a stunning contrast of ice and volcanic sand. Every wave reshapes the scene, making each moment as unique as the last.

I'm excited to return to Iceland this coming August. This trip will be a completely different experience, considering I will be there in mid-summer rather than the cold winter months. It also coincides with a total solar eclipse, which will be an amazing day of photography.

We had very challenging weather conditions in Amboseli National Park. But the heavy rains meant dramatic skies, green landscapes, and emerging flowers. Combine those elements with some beautiful evening sidelight and this is what you get. The herd of elephants made the scene mesmerizing.

The biggest surprise of my trip to Kenya were all the beautiful birds we encountered. I guess I was so focused on the mammals that I didn't think much about the feathered friends we would come across. Kingfishers are one of my favorite birds, and this is the Malachite Kingfisher, native to Africa. He stayed still just long enough for me to get off a few frames.

There are certainly moments of intensity and raw intimidation when spending time with a lion pride. But there are also moments filled with pure joy, curiosity, and even comedy. These three decided it was time to slow down for a while, settling into this peaceful spot for an afternoon snooze mixed with playful antics and quiet companionship.

Watching them interact was endlessly captivating, a reminder that even the most powerful predators share bonds of affection, comfort, and family. It was one of those scenes I could have watched all day, completely absorbed in their world.

As with all photography, it's the light that transforms everything, and that includes wildlife photography. It can elevate a moment into something unforgettable. Late one afternoon, we were given a rare front-row seat with this cheetah, but it was the soft, golden light that truly brought the scene to life. Every contour, every glance, every subtle movement was illuminated with a warmth that made the entire moment feel magical.

The unseasonably stormy conditions in Kenya this March provided us with incredible dramatic skies. While closeups of African wildlife are always striking, I find that showing these majestic animals in the context of their environment is often more captivating and powerful.

The last light of day was fading fast as this huge bull elephant walked right towards us. The dramatic landscape tells the story, one that I won't soon forget.

There's nothing that really prepares you for seeing the wildlife of Africa for the very first time. It's an awe-inspiring experience. Such was the case with the giraffes. As we meandered through Masai Mara one late afternoon, I spotted this beauty along with several others nearby. I almost felt like a visitor to Jurassic Park, seeing these gentle giants roam the open plains. What a way to end the day!
