The term “documentary photography” has been trending for some time now and it seems to get misconstrued. These photos are an example of documentary photography… a genuine approach to photographing someone’s family.

Typically taking place at home or somewhere you frequent, it is a way of capturing the memories of your life as you are right now. The clothes you actually wear, the way your house is decorated, what art you have hanging on the walls, the way your kids laugh with a missing tooth. The list goes on.

Why are documentary sessions so important?
It’s sort of the same question as why does ANYONE take pictures? If this family went on a hike without me, guaranteed one or both of the parents would have their phone out taking photos to PRESERVE. And yet, they wouldn’t even be in the photos…
Take this as your opportunity to put the phone away and let me do the work. Let me preserve the moments. The moments you can’t even see because YOU are a part of them. And they are ever so special. 🤍
