Some photography advice you didn’t ask for. 😬
But you promised not to get offended, sooooo…

There’s a point in your business where another lens, another prop, another backdrop, another workshop, or another fully booked month isn’t going to fix the problem.

Sometimes you need to shoot more.
Sometimes you need to charge more.
Sometimes you need to redo the business plan you made three years ago.
Sometimes you need to stop watching what everyone else is doing.
And sometimes you need to realize that being incredibly talented doesn’t automatically mean you’re running an incredible business.

I’ve learned A LOT through photography, owning a studio, renting that studio to other creatives, working with clients, making expensive mistakes, changing my pricing, and figuring things out as I go.

And one thing I will stand on:

Your talent may get someone’s attention. Your client experience, consistency, professionalism, and ability to actually run a business are what keep you in business.

And PLEASE stop letting someone using the same creative idea as yours ruin your Tuesday. 😂 They still don’t have your eye. 🫰 🫰

Sometimes the backdrop doesn’t belong on the backdrop stand. 🤌🏼

Put it on the floor. Add a chrome chair. Play with shape, color, negative space and perspective.

This is the part of photography I’m obsessed with, the creating. Taking pieces that already exist in my studio and looking at them differently.There doesn’t always need to be an elaborate set or a million props.

Sometimes it’s literally a roll of paper on the floor and an idea. 😂 And YESSS, I will absolutely be doing more of this.

There is something so powerful about being photographed exactly as you are. This session with Jimi was about HER. Getting back to herself. Stepping into a new season after becoming a mama, navigating life, change, growth and making space to see herself again.
& babyyyyyy… she came with the HEAT 😮‍💨 🔥

And THIS is exactly why I believe the consultation and pre-planning process matters so much. Yes, selfishly, I love getting to know my clients. I will absolutely sit there and yap with you for hours 🫣. But there’s a reason behind it. Portraits are personal. I don’t want to just photograph what you look like! I want to understand who you are, what you want to feel, and how you want to see yourself when you look back at these photographs.
