We were absolutely thrilled to explore The Château de Saumur, a stunning medieval fortress that has been transformed into a royal palace in the charming town of Saumur, France. This “storybook” castle stands proudly on a rocky ridge, 60 meters above the Loire River, and is renowned for its unique fairytale shape and breathtaking views of the valley.

The Loire River meanders through Saumur in western France, carving its way through the landscape for almost 30 kilometers as Europe’s last great wild river. It offers a breathtaking setting for the town, with the Château de Saumur standing proudly on a hilltop, and it’s a popular spot for boat tours and cycling along its scenic paths.

We were really intrigued by this toue barque—a classic flat-bottomed wooden boat that once zipped along the River Loire as a sand barge. Now, it’s a delightful tourist spot, offering a cruise that lets you explore. It’s truly the perfect way to soak in the beauty of the Loire Valley and the enchanting historical city of Saumur, France.

From March 21 to April 22, my wife and I set out on an adventure through the beautiful United Kingdom. Of course, 33 days were just a taste of the rich history and serene beauty we experienced. For us, it was an epic journey of a lifetime. We’re sharing our experience with the hope that it might inspire some of you to travel. Nestled quietly behind Peterborough Cathedral, you’ll find the Minster Precincts. A narrow path leads to Laurel Court, the Cathedral’s hidden gem. The old stone wall here beautifully mirrors the place’s rich history.

Perhaps we realized that soaking in Peterborough Cathedral’s 1400-year history and faith in just a few hours was a bit much. Still, we’re having a blast admiring the architectural beauty as we wander through the garden and around this iconic landmark.

We strolled through Cathedral Square, the bustling heart of Peterborough, a charming city nestled in Cambridgeshire, East Anglia. The beautiful plaza right in front of the cathedral is a sight to behold, but what catches your eye first is St John the Baptist, the Anglican parish church that was built back in 1407. This was where the townsfolk gathered to pray, while the monks found solace in the cathedral. Also, on the east side, you’ll find Guildhall, a delightful open-air building with a market on the ground floor, built in 1671. However, I was immediately drawn to the many shops and restaurants that surrounded the public space.
