🍩 National Donut Day is today, so naturally I have to talk about one of my FAVORITE wedding reception ideas ever 😍

A wedding that I photographed, had an entire donut wall instead of doing one giant traditional wedding cake. It was SUCH a hit!

Guests were grabbing donuts all night, it looked adorable in photos, and it felt way more interactive than watching a cake sit untouched for half the reception 😬

I love seeing couples choose details that actually feel like THEM instead of just doing things because they’re “traditional” 🤍

One wedding moment that genuinely made me cry?

A bride did a first look with her grandmother before the
ceremony 😭

No big production. No audience. Just the two of them seeing each other quietly for the first time that day.

Her grandma immediately started crying, which obviously
made everyone else emotional too 🥹

Those are the moments I remember most as a wedding photographer. Not just the details or timeline… but the deeply personal moments people create intentionally.

You do not need to invite every person you’ve ever met, every distant relative, or your great aunt Bonny just because someone told you that you “should” 😅

Think about the people who genuinely support you, show up for you, and will continue being part of your life after the wedding day is over.

Those are the people that matter most ✨

I know family property weddings can sometimes start as a budget decision or a convenience thing 🌿

But personally? I think the sentimental side is what makes them so special. Getting married somewhere tied to family memories just feels different 🤍

I honestly hope that someday I get to plan my own wedding on my grandparents’ property. There’s something really beautiful about celebrating a new chapter in a place that already holds so much history 🥰

I swear weddings get 10x more enjoyable when couples stop trying to impress everybody else ✨

The second people stop worrying about traditions they don’t even care about, random opinions from extended family, or whether every single detail will “look right” online… the whole energy changes 🥰

People laugh more.
They relax more.
The day feels lighter.

Some of the happiest couples I’ve photographed did things completely their own way, and because of that, their wedding actually felt personal instead of stressful.

A wedding photographer’s unpopular opinion: Pinterest is both the best thing and the worst thing to happen to wedding planning 😅📌

I LOVE inspiration boards. I love seeing what colors, textures, lighting, outfits, flowers, and little details people are drawn to. It helps couples figure out what actually feels like *them*

But I think sometimes people accidentally start expecting an exact copy of someone else’s wedding day, and that’s where disappointment sneaks in 🫣 Your wedding isn’t supposed to look identical to a styled shoot from California with a six-figure budget and perfect weather 🌞

The best weddings always end up becoming their *own* inspiration. Different location. Different people. Different emotions. Different story.

Your day doesn’t need to look like Pinterest. It just needs to feel like you ✨
