So, since I apparently haven't introduced myself around here in a while… hi 😅👋

I'm Kiana, and while I've always photographed weddings, I'm making a bit of a shift in the kinds of wedding days I want to make more room for.

I'm especially drawn to **smaller celebrations**

Elopements. Backyard weddings. DIY weddings. Courthouse ceremonies followed by dinner with your favorite people. Tiny guest lists. Weddings where you don't necessarily need a whole production just to get married.

😍

Not everybody wants to spend a year planning a giant wedding. Not everybody wants 150 people there. Not everybody wants to spend their entire budget on one day. And sometimes you just look at the options and think, *“I'd rather keep this simple and put that money somewhere else”* 😂

I think there's something really special about that. Smaller doesn't mean less meaningful by any means. Sometimes it's less running around, less trying to make everyone else happy, and more time actually enjoying the people you're celebrating with 🥰

That's the kind of wedding day I want to photograph more of. The real stuff. The happy chaos. The backyard details you put together yourself. The people who matter most. The little moments you might not even realize are happening until you see the photographs later ❤️

So if you're planning a wedding that doesn't look like the stereotypical “big wedding,” you're absolutely my kind of people 🤗 And I'm pretty excited about where this is going ✨

If you're planning a 2027 wedding, here's one of my best pieces of advice 👇

Set a budget for every vendor BEFORE you start falling in love with them!

Not because you shouldn't dream. Please dream! 😂

But because it is absolutely heartbreaking to fall in love with a planner, florist, venue, dress, or photographer… only to realize they're $1,500 over what you can comfortably spend 🥹😭

Give yourself a range for each category. Then you know where you have room to splurge and where you need to compromise.

On the plus side: if you start planning early, payment plans can sometimes make it possible to work with vendors who would otherwise feel out of reach because you're spreading the cost over more time ❤️

Budgeting doesn't make your wedding less exciting. It makes the decisions a whole lot easier 💍🥂

One of my favorite parts of a wedding day? Playing bodyguard 💪

Especially when there's a first look involved.

Who is allowed to see the bride?
Who absolutely can NOT see the bride?
Where does everyone need to stand?
Who just wandered around the corner completely unaware that they're about to ruin the surprise? 👀 😑

I'm suddenly security 😂

There are so many little behind-the-scenes things photographers end up doing on wedding days that have nothing to do with actually pressing the shutter. We're watching the timeline, watching the people, watching the doors, watching the light… and occasionally guarding a bride like we're protecting state secrets 🕵️‍♀️

Pinterest is amazing! And I will absolutely encourage you to use it when you're planning your wedding ✨

But here's where I think couples sometimes get themselves into trouble:

Pinterest is inspiration NOT an instruction manual.

Save the bouquet you love. Save the color palette. Save the ceremony setup that made you stop scrolling. Save the weird little detail that made you think, “OH. I really like that.”

Then close the app and ask yourselves: What do we actually want?

Your wedding doesn't need to recreate somebody else's backyard, table setting, dress, poses, or timeline to be beautiful.

Take the inspiration and make it yours. That's where the good stuff happens ❤️💙🧡

🌧️ PNW couples, we're going to talk about this...

If you're planning a wedding in Washington, there is one little thing we should probably discuss before the forecast decides to humble us 😂

Rain.

I'm going to be starting a series about rainy wedding days, because “just hope it doesn't rain” is not exactly a plan 🫣

There are SO many questions wrapped up in that little weather icon: photos, timelines, outdoor ceremonies, dresses, hair, guests, backup locations, and what happens when your Pinterest-perfect plan suddenly needs a Plan B.

I'm going to dig into all of it 💙

So if you're planning a PNW wedding, keep an eye out! 👀☔

Wedding unpopular opinion:

You do not need a giant wedding party 💥

I've seen the logistics that come with trying to get a whole army of people where they're supposed to be, when they're supposed to be there, wearing the right thing, standing in the right place, while somebody's cousin disappears for 20 minutes 😂

Meanwhile, a smaller wedding party can mean less chaos and more time actually celebrating 🥂

I'm not saying don't have 12 bridesmaids if that's your dream. Have your people! I'm just saying… you also don't have to 😉

Would you rather have a wedding party of 2–4 or a whole squad? 👇
