In January, I had the pleasure of being my bestie Ali Homek ‘s Maid of Honor! I may be on another level when it comes to my MOH qualifications (having worked in event planning, wedding photography, bridal styling, etc) but here are some tips that will help any gal pal navigating this special role in her nearly-wed friends’s life.
1. Establish expectations early on so you know what the bride/ married is hoping you might help with and be present for.
2. Show up, be prompt, present, and bring the positivity and good vibes. Thoughtful touches throughout her engagement will go a long way!
3. On wedding day ensure you are helping her throughout the day to stay comfortable, relaxed, joyful, hydrated and keep snacks on hand.
4. For getting dressed bring a crochet hook for this tiny elastics if her dress has buttons, wig tape works better than fashion tape, secure her veil with extra Bobby pins, etc.
5. Smile for the camera, keep the dance floor going, jump in the Photobooth…be the ultimate guest!
6. Limit alcohol until all formalities are over, especially speeches.
7. Have fun! 🤩 It is an honor to help jazz up your friend at this exciting time.
8. Keep your friendship alive after the wedding day. It is sadly easy to fall out of the rhythm of being social after this specific life event but it’s worth the effort to make plans and keep having things to look forward to with your friend.
