THE 40/40 PROJECT IS BACK!!!

It seems that woman over the age of 40 really want to be seen and heard!!! For the past two years I have dedicated part of my time in the studio to photographing women over the age of 40 and sharing their stories trough a magazine and a galley exhibit. This experience has been truly transformative. One session was not enough and I still receive emails from women who wish to be included. It seems we started a revolution!

IT’S OFFICIAL THE 40/40 PROJECT IS BACK!!!

There won’t be a selection process this time. Sessions will be booked on a firs come first served basis and only 40 spots are available. If you want to save your spot go to the link in bio. I can’t wait to hear your story and document this time in your life with magazine cover worthy portraits.

40/40 Event

On January 29th we came together to celebrate the 40/40 Project that has been a year in the making. We had laughs and some cries and great conversations. The evening had a great turnout with awesome food and drinks and beautiful florals. Thank you to Brian Morri for capturing the event. Special thanks to Dayna Riesgo and Westley Thornton without whom this evening wouldn't have been possible.

I am so excited to finally be able to share this incredible project. Back in August, I was honored to receive an award at WPPI to produce and photograph concepts for the Pro Prints billboard project to celebrate professional photographers.

This is the first of 4 different images to be featured in Los Angeles.

The past couple of months have hit me hard.
I needed to step away.

Passing of a dear friend’s loved one in a horrific way is devastating and my heart breaks for her.

Learning of a family members brutal diagnosis has compounded to my paralysis. No one saw it coming and we must stay hopeful and positive.

Winning an award for an incredible project that consumed whatever was left of my head space seems trivial and unimportant. And yet, it means so much.

It is painful and difficult to hold. Here we are, human in all its beauty and pain and in the end, all we have left is memories…

Another award winning image at WPPI that almost wasn’t. The second shoot in my home studio deep during the lockdown. The credit for this one goes to and for this awesome concept, costumes and the happy chickens, as part of a fun family shoot and their new nonprofit launch The Little Zoo. It truly was a magical day. My dog was a true gentlemen and host to our feathered guests. No chickens were harmed. We had wrapped the shoot and just for fun at the end Erin asked to do a quick fun shot with all the chickens. Trying new things goes with failure. We get frustrated that we are not instantly good at something. It often prevents us from trying new things. Someone else is already doing it better. It will take too long… Yes, to all of that! Also, sometimes, we’ve been thinking of trying something for so long that now we’ve talked ourselves out of it entirely.

This image reminds me that we are far more capable than we imagine. It nearly didn’t happen from fear of failure. However, it did. A few months into the pandemic at a time when I was deeply evaluating what was important. The “one day I will have a studio” had to be now. Crisis has a way of shaking us to our core and this global one slapped me in the face. I had nothing to lose as none of it is promised. Converting our dining room into a studio took shedding all the excuses and just trying. This image was one of the first tries. I couldn’t get it right, I got frustrated, but, it came close so it was exciting. I had a willing and talented muse, Westley Thornton, and nothing but time in the lockdown. I got closer to understanding how to create this the way I imagine. I will keep trying. My early efforts turned out to be award-winning at WPPI. Even though it carries a great sense of validation, the bigger lesson for me is the joy of what is possible if I strive to always learn and get better at something new.

The very first one is the beautiful and Incredible Dayna who wears many hats. I have never met another person who does so much sooooo well. Organizing and running high-end celebrity events, art and music festivals, acting, performing and a photographer herself, are some of her many accomplishments. It has been a strange journey these last couple of months. I find my mind going to dark corners that put me face to face with, what if... The fragility of life is a staple in my days, now, more then ever. Being sick with unknown virus and not knowing if one will get better or worse is unsettling and it has left me feeling as no amount of “you should do this” and “stay productive” is of any importance right now. I am starting to see new meaning in my work and a clearer sense of where I would like to go, should that be so. The sadness is comforting somehow. I am less reluctant to bury morbid thoughts that in the past, out of strange superstition were not to occupy space in my head. Those too are healthy and me and need a voice in my art. This image never started with these thoughts in mind. It has however, found a perfect place in my heart. Even as I was bringing it to life, it changed on me. It started off as “my quarantine buddies” but it quickly morphed deeper into, what may be left if I was no longer here...

Most ceremonies start late. There is a multitude of reasons this is the case. It is the moment that everything had been culminating to and there is always something that prevents punctuality. However, it all gets sorted eventually. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hanging out with the guys on the wedding day. We had 3 minutes to accomplish this shot before the ceremony. The energy was high and attention was low. I managed to convince them the result will be worth it and they need to pay attention otherwise we’ll miss the opportunity to create something fun and special.
